FE Technical Forum / 1964 427 cast iron header gasket question
« on: August 29, 2020, 03:24:04 PM »
Hey guys, about to finally drop in my Survival Motorsports built 482 into my 1964 Galaxie and have a couple of questions, The first is can this be done with the factory cast iron long tubes headers bolted on? My second question is what do you recommend for header gaskets (Survival heads w/ factory 427 cast iron headers) or do I just use RTV or both?

Thank you all for your insight!

Greg,

Not sure if you are looking for 15 only but I went with 18x9 1/2 with 285/40/18's and have no problems with clearance. BS is +1mm or approx. 4.79. I have Eaton rear leafs.

Blair, I had an old 352 sitting around and checked the heads and it has ONE c4ae-6090-G and ONE C8ae-6090-H on it. Go figure! Your welcome to the G and/or the H for that matter if you need it. I am located in Duluth, GA 30097.

mn67 and Tony, Awesome cars, brings back great memories. PLEASE keep posting pics of these cars!

My first car was my grandfather's 1970 maverick who gave it to me in 1975 when I was 15 and my mom would not let him drive anymore. It was in showroom new condition, 6 banger/auto column shift, teal with a black vinyl top and bench seat interior. It about gave him a heart attack as I immediately swapped a 289 and 4 speed out of a wrecked Comet a friend and I found at a local junk yard, ripped off the vinyl roof, put a set of pinto buckets from same yard and had it painted red with black lowers like a Mach 1 which is what I really wanted but couldn't afford.

I think you guys have given me my next project!

Keep it up and thanks for the memory!

Testing picture post and my first post on the forum, which I have been stalking and absorbing info for years!

Here's my just finished the 1969 F100 project. New wiring harness, new gaskets, new pulleys, water pump, alum radiator and a/c for the 428 FE,  new clutch, pressure plate and new seals for the 4 speed top-loader and 9 inch rear w/3:50 gears. New torque thrust wheels and tires. I am very happy with how it turned out!

My new/current in progress (2 year) project is a 1964 Galaxie 500. Barry R is building a BBM Aluminum 482 with his heads and tunnel wedge 2x4 for that which will have a c6 with a gear vendors and 3:89 Detroit locker. Car has been frame off and is just now finally getting paint after rust repairs and body work. Still a long way to go on this one! Wi  post some pics of that as it makes some progress if there is any interest.
