Title: Timken, Spicer differential 1952 ford 3/4 ton
Post by: Katz427 on November 05, 2020, 07:45:32 AM
Any one with any experience on these? The pinion seal is a leaker,( just sitting there) the newer seals, just seem to leak. No problems with the old leather seals.

No bearing or yoke issues?  Clearly coming from the seal at the yoke?

I haven't worked on one of those rears, but if everything is stable, shouldn't be too hard to seal up, at least more than leaking just sitting there LOL.

Your going to have to pull the yoke and if it has a groove in it, you'll have to have it turned down and a sleeve installed.

Thanks for replying. Strange contraption, has an electric motor connected by belt drive and pulleys to a shaft going to a 3 foot shaft driving the Timken which drives platform and spinning cars for a carnival ride. So the differential is on it's side with the side bells vertical. The rebuilder  put a new seal in but it leaks just sitting, no load applied.

on a lincoln nine inch rear , I had to put sealer on the outside of the seal , where it goes into the housing , to get it to seal , maybe look into doing that . kinda like Jay was talking about on the rear seal on the fe engines .

I recall working on such a contraption when I hung around a carnival the summer I turned 18.  That's wasn't our problem; the guy had welding issues.
