Title: Bell housing question?

I am looking at installing a 5 speed in my 58 Ranchero with a warmed up 352 and a cruiso that is worn out .I have some of the parts but I don’t remember what the bell housing is from and also do I need to install a block plate between the bell housing and block like on a automatic?
The bell housing casting number is C60A-6384-D and it also has a big Z cast by the numbers . If I remember this is a passenger car bell ?

The C6OA-6384-D bellhousings were used on the Fairlane/Comet/Torino/Ranchero/Mustang/Cougar cars. Ford started using the block plate starting in the ‘63 model year for properly locating the starter, so yes you need the plate with that bellhousing. The plates are functionally the same from ‘63-76, and in any given year are the same for both automatic & manual transmissions, and for both cars & pickups. There were running changes periodically in the stampings, as far as the clearance holes punched in them, and the embossing around the crank hole, but functionally they are all the same. Just check for interference around any oil galley plugs on the rear of your block, etc.

Can't add anymore then what Kevin gave you.  But I'm glad to see another '58' Ranchero getting back on the road. I've had mine for 50 years and have yet to see another in person.  Been to a lot of car shows here and have seen plenty of '57's even Ranch Wagons and Del Rio's. I'm jealous of yours for having a 5 speed, me I have a W/R top loader 4 speed. 
Like Kevin said, you do need a block plate to line up your starter and make sure your trans input shaft is the right length, and don't forget to align your Bell housing with a indicator.  If you need to move your B/H go with RobbMc Bellhousing Alignment Dowel Pins, they are the best and easiest to use.
