Title: Valve cover gasket questions
Post by: KsHighboy on October 17, 2020, 04:54:27 PM
My passenger vc is leaking and I have several old cork gaskets around. You guys think it would be advisable to use old cork? The gasket i have is an old, probably 15yrs old. Do they dry out over time or not? I wouldn't say it feels as new but its not brittle. If I need to go buy new then what gasket is best?

Cork does eventually go bad, but it usually dries out over time and breaks down.

With that being said, I only use cork valve cover gaskets.  Not a fan of the rubber ones.

If the cork is dried out the gasket is to small. You can soak it in hot water that way
it swell to the right size and gets more pliabel
