I LOVE pintos!
Since 1990 I have owned 11 (in various conditions all had titles but many were parts vehicles)
The current unit is my favorite though
It’s a 1980 trunk model

I'll always have a soft spot for my '72. Full tube frame and rollcage, chopped four inches, front clip and rear quarters of fibreglas with flares to hold 345/35X15 Pirellis on 12 inch Welds in the back and 285/40X15 dittos on 10 inch Welds in the front. Used a 9" with discs in the back with a 4-link and a circle track suspension in the front with tube arms and Koni coil-overs on both ends. Had a 466inch 429 SCJ and a C6 in between, with the engine setting under the cowl/dash. The pair of seats were on the back seat footspace. I never raced it, but I loaned the engine to a friend who put it into a 'big' Cougar and went into the 10's with it The Cougar weighed over 4 thousand pounds and was very traction-limited. The Pinto weighed 2250 with 1140 on the back tires. ;)

I have a complete “Pangra” front end for a pinto in a crate I bought years ago
If I can come across a 71-72 trunk model I will grab it for that nose
I also had this crazy dream to make one a T-Top car and I cut the top off of a mustang II that was rusted into the ground
Doors are the issue there I need to somehow come up with doors that are only glass with no frames around to match the T-Tops but I almost think that’s a project for many years down the road!
I’m 46 and have very little time that would be a labor of love to cut and splice
I think a hot engine be it a turbo 4 or a v8 could be a great candidate for a t-top pangra
Just pipe dreams that’s all

My first car was a '75 Pinto wagon. Still would like to have one, just because. They do make neat race cars. Had a chance to buy a Don Hardy pro stock pinto a few years back, but talk about CRAMPED inside. Geesh, I had a hard time moving my legs around to be able to drive it. To release the clutch I had to somehow wedge my left knee between the steering wheel and the door bar. It was cool though.

I'd have that in a minute. Probably more motor than I'd want to mess with, but the chassis layout/stance is perfect.

I had a 1972 wagon (first year for the wagon) with the German 2.0L, man that thing liked the RPMs, little screamer. I was collecting parts to make a blow through turbo setup, but ended up selling the car. Hell, I've still got a new/never installed cast iron turbo manifold from back in the day, and some other parts and pieces. A turbo Pinto would be a nice sleeper-- surprise the hell out of people.

It has a transbrake in the C4 and a bump box built into the ECU
this is the quickest I have ever been in this car
I hoping the new combo does way better but for now this is pretty respectable.

There used to be an outfit, if I remember correctly, that was called fibreglas unlimited. They had Pinto doors that only weighed about four pounds each. I used them on my car, filling the insides with spray foam for surface stiffness. You can whittle the foam and insert sliding Lexan windows. When I chopped the top on my car, I removed the rain gutters and smoothed out the resulting edge by tig brazing for fill.
I'd imagine you might do the same sort of thing and incorporate the T-tops. Before I put the roll cage in, the car would 'wrack' on a four-point lift and the doors wouldn't shut. With the cage and frame there was no problem.

Very nice. I believe my favorite car of all times is a Pinto, your's looks great.
I had a V8 Pinto many decades ago, and then joked for many years that if I became independently wealthy would get another (not because the car is expensive) just because. Then my grown kids pitched in and got me one for my birthday, but it remains 1973, 2.0 4 spd at this moment.

With Jay's Cammer, you'd have to upgrade to a Bobcat... Since they are equipped with Lock Washers.

I had a '74 wagon with a 351W , C4 . Ran 13.0hs right off the street with L60 Goodyear polyglas tires. I won the last drag race at OCIR with it . sold it and it later became a super gasser down south.

What is the race you are talking about?
I have SEVERAL toploaders including two that are 31 spline output 1 3/8 input wide ratio and proshifted
All but one of my toploaders are short tail but I’m honestly thinking that the “new” engine I’m building will wreck a top loader as I have always been told that high rpm is harder on toploaders than anything else
I may be wrong though as those darn things tend to be really tough
I think for consistency a c4 wins for me but I know they too have serious flaws

It's an all stick shift group that runs at NE Ohio tracks.
We run Quaker, Mag, Thompson, Pacemakers, along with one at Pittsburgh which is their Nostalgia nationals and we run with Pro Stick which is an East coast stick group. We just finished up our season a couple weeks ago.
High rpm isn't an issue with a toploader power wise, it's the rotational weight of the gears and it won't powershift with brass in it for very long. It will wear the ribs off, thus making it very difficult to shift. I ran mine to 6K and it lasted all summer back when I ran one. Over that threshold, it will go away quickly. Faceplating it would make it better. Overall power is still a concern especially with stock gearsets(hardened), but the correct clutch will help.

My all time favorite car is a 1936 auburn speedster I will never have a real one but a good replica is ok as well
