What's everyone's opinion on putting my 352 project into something like a 67-68 Mustang coupe? I'm not in a hurry to find something. I'd like to do quite a bit of dyno testing first, but eventually it needs to go in something. I'm thinking a light weight car would compliment the 352's personality.

Either that or a Maverick. Lots of mustangs out there, but not so many Mavericks.

55 or 56 Ford 2 door sedan...That would be cool.

You won't find anything lighter than a '60-'63 Falcon.
They are cheap and plentiful, at least on my side of the US.

You might want to look at at a 67 or up Falcon. They're a little heavier than the earlier ones, but an FE is a bolt-in swap, which would make the project a lot easier/quicker.

Never thought about a Falcon. Just scoping around the internet, a 66-67 isn't a bad looking ride. What do they weigh?

Falcon is a great idea but ‘65.
Not as easy but damn cool looking. IMHO :)

So an FE is a drop in on a 66-67? Did any of them come setup for a manual trans?

Yes, the '66 Falcon used the same front end architecture as the Fairlane. FE will bolt in with Fairlane mounts, etc. Joe-JDC

The '66-'70 Falcon is a nice car, too. But, about 300 lb heavier than the early ones. The '66-70 have std trans, too.
Curiously, in '78 I had a '67 Cortina (English Ford) the front end of the Cortina, is a scaled down '66 Falcon. Makes me like the '66 Falcon more.

You should probably add at least 350 lb to these numbers for a FE and 9" rear.

Yep, would still be a pretty light ride and even looks a little Fairlane-ish. I'm liking this idea better and better.
Which 4-speed did they have? 3-speed Toploader?

The 4 speed was an option, so that should also be pretty easy if you're looking to put a 4 speed behind it.

I vote for an older Fairlane, my '67 coupe weighed 3100 with FE, C6 and 9".

Shop truck. Something you can actually use and get to enjoy at the same time.
Edit to add with a toploader. Or some sort of manual trans that's fun to shift.

Oddball combo needs to be in the right car :)
I like the 66-69 Falcon idea, or a 55-56 Ford.
I know it would be a bit heavy, but ratty F100 would be cool too, being that so many 352s were truck engines.

Do you need/want a back seat to take the kids with you ? Obviously Mustang is always a good choice and easy to get parts , no back seat a 34 Ford would be cool too and show off the engine

I will 2nd e philpott's '34 Ford recommendation. Lot's of options, sedan if you want a back seat or pickup for the shop truck. Could probably find an older build with a chebbie cheap. Throw the SBC away and install the 352! Think a slightly subdued version of the Iron Orchid.

I'm diggin the Falcon so far. The engine is going to look '66-67 period correct, so it would fit in well.

This was my best friends coupe. He kept it in my garage. We took the Olds out and put my LR in it.

Had a souped early 390 4/spd in it, has tilt column and front discs. Stainless is there and chrome has been re-done. 57s make great hotrods- and hotrod shop trucks

When I saw the subject line I immediately thought '66-'69 Falcon. Fairly light, different (like the 352 in it!) and an FE ready engine bay. I believe Fairlane specific FE engine bay stuff will work, like headers.
Note: Fairlane front end sheet metal supposedly bolts one, too. I like the Falcon look, though.

Fairlane motor mounts, transmission mount, FE radiator, and transmission lines if using an auto with cooler, driveshaft, and I would install a 9" rear with at least 31 spline axles. Just about anything that fits a mustang or fairlane that came with FE will cross over. The motor mounts are a tricky part because of the offset for the through bolt, but again use a fairlane mount, and it bolts in. Upgrade the front springs, sway bar, shocks, and you have a mustang in a falcon body. Joe-JDC

My understanding, haven't done it, is that it's all the same as a '66-'67 Fairlane or Comet. Same motor mounts and headers. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

'66-'69 Falcons share the engine compartment with the Fairlanes-Comets of those years. The Rancheros and station wagons share the same chassis but the rear springs are inset an inch or so. Any of the parts used to mount the FE in the Fairlane fits just fine.

Friend of mine has a 64 falcon with a 428 in it... full cage and it weighs 3200lb I believe with 150 lb driver

I've got this one sitting on my trailer to sell right now. Issue is I'm having an issue getting the title straightened out.
62,000 miles I last drove it in 1972 then have stored it since.

early 60s Falcon.. mines 3380 pounds though but i made it overkill

My '72 Pinto weighed 2240 complete with a full tube frame and cage, and an all iron 466 SCJ and a C6 and 9" Versailles rear axle. 1140 was on the back tires. (345-35 Pirellis on 12 inch Weld wheels. Used 285-40s on the front). Had a 4" chopped top.
