Title: Gonna do another quantity order of custom Scat crankshafts....
Post by: blykins on September 28, 2020, 06:56:31 AM
Will take a minimum of 5 to get reduced pricing.  These are custom steel crankshafts, any stroke from 3.780" to 4.375", BBC rod journals, gun drilled mains, shaped counterweights, scalloped flywheel flanges, etc, etc.  Any takers?

 Thanks for doing this.

I'm considering one, ............ but you can't put me down as a "definitely" yet, I'm still studying possibilities and finances, wants vs needs etc.

Not a problem.

Considering two forged 4.25. Got a cut-off date or once you got 5 you're ordering?

4.250" and 4.125" are off-the-shelf cranks and wouldn't be included in this scenario.  They are available for about $700 cheaper, unless you want some extra features.

That is interesting! Can you get a goofy stroke like 4.300 then? But it has to be 2.200 rod journal, can't be 2.100 or 2.00, is that correct?

Since a 4.250 stroke is an off-the shelf option, what's the cost if someone wanted the above treatment of "gun drilled mains, shaped counterweights, scalloped flywheel flanges, etc," but done to an existing 4.250 crank that they might have "on the shelf"?  Still $1895, or perhaps somewhat cheaper since no custom stroke needs done?

They have cranks like that on the shelf too, well maybe at times. It is basically the same part number but with a -2 and a -3 at the end. Both 4.125 and 4.250 stroke. So a 4340 FE 4.250 std. weight crank would be a 4-FE-4250-6700-2200 then add a -2 or a -3

4340 STD. WEIGHT FORGED
PRO SERIES LIGHTWEIGHT is the -2 has gun drilled mains and rods, and has a partial profiled flywheel flange (to help with balance) and then the
SUPERLIGHT SERIES is the -3 has all of the above plus pendulum cut counterweights.

I don't know if they stock them or you have to order them in or what, no idea on price either, but I have had all three versions plus the cast 9000 in my hands over the years for different builds. I own a standard forged 4.250 in my current engine and have a superlight 4.125 for a future big bore build. They are all nice cranks...

The crank I received has the part number

7-427-4375-PCG-33

However it looks like what you describe as a -2.

It has gun drilled main and rod journals, and a partially scalloped flywheel flange.

It does not have the pendulum cut counterweights.
I was hoping to get the pendulum cut counterweights, but it’s really not that big of a deal.
My motor isn’t going to be a race motor by any stretch.

My Scat rep said a -3, 4.250" steel crank would retail at about $2200.

Well, looks like I'll be passing on this round of cranks also.  I expect some time down the road I'll be kicking myself for doing so.

I attempted the same homework as many of you. Trying to fit what I got into the list of options SCAT has. In the end these are custom cranks at a tremendous value IMO. Kind of like the Pro Series but with a weight reduction option of gun-drilled mains. A super great deal from one of the Killer B's that frequent this forum.

Here's what mine looks like and how I am storing it long term. Suspended and coated with a lithium grease spray. The gray cover should be able to "breathe" some and I have some moisture absorbing chips in a bowl at the base. Any negatives to this? It's in my basement but I have a dehumidifier running for most of the year. It could sit like this for 2 years or more perhaps.

I agree, very happy with mine. And big thanks to Brent again. I contacted him shortly after I received the crank and he set me up with a set of rods and bearings as well.
