Was 104* on my back porch today, just wondering if all the heat was from Jay's dyno session with the new heads making lots of heat? 8) ;) Joe-JDC

Still lots to do. My paranoia about potential problems and my inexperience with a really big cam (0.880" lift), and really big springs (1000 pounds over the nose) has slowed me down; Lykins steered me straight on some of that. Plus, assembly of all the components led to one major surprise, where I discovered that I had calculated the rocker arm ratio incorrectly during the initial design phase over a year ago. So, the rocker ratio has turned out to be high (1.85:1), and the pushrod side of the geometry isn't quite right; sweep across the valve tip looks good though. I'm going to try to run with those rockers anyway because I still have good piston to valve clearance, but if they turn out to be a problem I may have to machine the corrected versions and run those instead. Also, I had to modify some machining programs for the intake adapter to get clearance for the rocker arm support bar, clearance for the angled intake pushrods, and valve cover fit. But I finally got it together and on the dyno on Thursday this week. Building headers now, and also need to work out the linkage for the 2X4 manifold, mounts for the individual coils, and a myriad of other smaller details. But I'm getting closer.
No promises on when I will have results yet, by the way, I'm fully aware and almost expecting that there could be problems on the dyno. The whole top end of the engine is new and untested, so there may be details to work out...

Ha! Especially if I put it in a Pinto LOL! By the way, the header tubes are 2" to 2-1/8" to 2-1/4" stepped headers into merge collectors that I got from Blair, with 3-1/2" outlets.

Ok, Im the last person to want to cause a distraction, but whats with all those wires hanging down in a loom that look like it's melted into the collector? got to be a trick of the camera.

Nothings melted, at least not yet ;D The dyno room is a mess while I get this engine ready to run, and that contributes to the clutter in the room. I think what you are seeing is some wires and cables that come up from the bottom of the dyno chassis to the back shelf, supplying an electronics box under the shelf and also the ignition or EFI system that sits on the shelf. For example, a couple 10 gauge power wires, a couple 10 gauge ground wires, a USB cable, etc. go up there. They are right next to the collector in the photo. There is a high temperature wrap around these cables that keeps them from getting burned. Most of the time the collector is actually further in and the cables don't touch it, but in this case the collector is farther outboard and the wrap can contact the collector. During the dyno session I'll pull it away with some wire and tie wraps to keep it from making contact with the collector, but for now it's just hanging there against it. Just a work in progress at this point...

LOL Bill, don't jinx me, I am a little worried about that poor RPM crank. More worried about the valvetrain, the head castings, and all the other untested parts...

Little problems are inevitable. You can fix them.

Just curious Jay, but will a stock "type" distributor work, or will a Crank trigger, Coil on Plug arrangement be needed? I know it works better for tuning obviously.

Stock type distributor will work on the single 4 and dual 4 manifolds, but not the crossram, unless you have one of those offset distributors.

Ross, it is 511 cubes, 4.310" bore Pond cast iron block, 4.375" stroke RPM forged crank, Crower billet rods, CP 13:1 pistons, and the cam is a solid roller, .880" gross lift, 285/292 @ .050 duration. Crower solid roller lifters. It has a Milodon 8 quart pan, a Moroso windage tray, and a Precision Oil Pumps high volume pump. It is nearly identical to the 504" version that I tested all the 351C intakes on, except for the cam and pistons.

No, most certainly not. The original design objective was to make a set of heads and induction system that would be good for up to 900 HP without any porting. The purpose of the dyno session will be to try to see if the heads and induction system meet that objective.

looks powerful to me,i thought you might kill 2 birds with one stone. i have never seen anything more impressive in the fe line. i guess i shouldnt have said that.

I'd expect it to run right up there, especially with that head flow, don't sit during the run, a seat cushion will end up where it shouldn't be :)
Do you have a date you plan to run it? and silly question, but does the dyno have enough exhaust to support it?

It will need to make 1.77 HP/CI to reach Jay's goal. Not a stretch at 13:1 and very good heads and intake, with lots of lift on that camshaft. I think Jay has already done the math several times over, and now we just wait for the results. 2.19 x cfm gets him there, depending on the flow from the as cast heads at .880" lift. .257 x cfm x 8 gets him very close depending on the cfm, also. I think he has it all figured out. Joe-JDC
