Title: Power stearing on the -64 Galaxie
Post by: Heo on March 16, 2020, 01:04:24 PM
My stearing box had developed a play in the sectorshaft bearing and wife
think the stearing is so heavy. So i decided its time for P/S, i have a whole
set of the original P/S with that ram cyl but...Naaahh dont like them.
Im not much of a kit buyer so i searched my stasch of stearing components
and found a Opel omega box. Long sectorshaft like the Galaxie

 So i made a
drill guide i bolted to the original box bolt holes, drilled the frame. The opel box is
mounted with M10 bolts and nuts so the holes in the box was 11mm so i put
7/16 Helicoils in them so i could use the stock bolts. But the box protuded so much in to the car
so i gave up on that!  Back to the stasch gave me a Opel kadett,SAAB 93, a lot of dorky FWD GM cars
on the same Platform. Chevy whatsoever, Pontiac J2000 Cadilac Cimaron etc Power R/P

If i weld a piece of tubing to the right side i can make some "factory" looking brackets for it.
This R/P moves the center when you stear, and the tie rods is bolted close together. So i fab a
bracket with the right C-C distance for the Galaxie tierods. So back to the stash and look for
some universal joints. I think Volvo 740 joints will be fine for that
