Title: "Ford Performance".....
Post by: fe-starliner on February 08, 2020, 03:37:13 PM
Anyone who has known me for a while will tell you that I usually don't like to be in the spotlight or the center of attention.  However when I learned that "Ford Performance" had done this writeup about me it got me to thinking about how much I like reading about others stories / histories about their cars and car experiences.  So I decided to come out of the shadows and post this.  Some of you on this forum may have already read this on the "FP" email newsletter but for others I hope you can enjoy it.  And there is a FE connection....three of the pictured vehicles have FE engines in them.

Marc I absolutely love this write up! My father is an F.E. enthusiast as well. He will be 75 next month. I was lucky enough to be able to drag race with him (we both had chevys at the time) but I thank you for this story, it made me thankful for my heritage, and the talent my father has with automobiles. He still plays with his 64 thunderbird (390). He does 2 or 3 restorations a year for customers in his retirement still.  Your current rides are really great, unique pieces. I love everything about 60’s Ford Drag racing. Thank you for sharing this with everyone, and helping bring passion for the automobile to the next generation.

Marc, bravo on the article, well deserved recognition. Sometimes I feel as though the chevy thing has sucked the oxygen out of the hobby for me. Your story does put some wind back in my sails.
Mike.

Thanks guys for the kind words.  475fetoploader I was also lucky enough to drag race with my two sons.  My oldest. who will be 55 this year, has my original 72 Maverick, now with a 363 he built and a Jerico.  My youngest will be 50 this year and he runs a 84 Thunderbird with a 408 and C4. I quit about 6 years ago.....too much of a financial drain.  And the work effort at my age wasn't worth the fun factor anymore.  When I was younger and racing I thought I'd never say that.

Thanks Marc for posting this. I also have raced with my dad and he has just started coming around again. Yes great memories. And you have a nice stable of cars.

Marc, Great write-up. This is especially near and dear to my heart as I have 2 Starliners, a 60 and a 61, both  Monte Carlo red. I've owned the 60 since 1967 and the 61 came along in 1982. BTW thanks for making me aware of the Ford website. I have  book marked it and look forward to more stories such as yours. Regards, Bob

thanks RJP...it's nice you also have both years of Starliners.  I bought my first back in 1983, sold it later and regretted it.  Bought my '61 in 1998 and my '60 in 2006.  The '60 Starliner has been a favorite of mine since they first came out.  In the fall of 1959 I was learning how to drive, I was the oldest of four kids. My father went out and bought a new '60 Ford.  But we were so poor that it wasn't a Starliner.....he bought from dealer stock the least expensive model he could find. Two door post Fairlane....not even Fairlane 500.  Rubber floor mats, no options except the 292 engine, not even a radio! Three on the tree, no power brakes, power steering, A/C, I'm not even sure it had a cigarette lighter.  My mother wasn't exactly happy that he had bought a new car.  His excuse was..."well the boy needs a good car to learn how to drive in."  I must say when driving without my parents, that I really did enjoy that 292!!!

Tom, thanks for the nice words.
