Title: Reproduction Power By Ford Valve Covers
Post by: DuckRyder on December 08, 2019, 08:54:31 AM
I am finding Tony D Branda and Scott Drake. Branda says baffled and Scott Drake say not baffled.

Is there a difference and is not baffled for the Scott Drake correct?

Will either clear Erson Rockers? I seem to remember factory ones would not, but don’t remember why,,,

Every set I have seen were baffled, and looked like stock baffles more or less.

I have not seen any insurmountable interference, even with .630 lift cams and rollers, however, the tight spot is at outer steps of the baffles and the side of the rocker body.  I generally start by squeezing them with a big set of Channel-loc pliers, then shape them on a leather bag so I don't mess up the chrome.  That being said I did it with HS adjustables and Brent's non-adjustables with POP end stands,  I haven't tried a set of Ersons.  The Ersons seem more narrow though, so might work

I would recommend mocking up a set of blue PBF, they should be almost identical, and then see how close you are.

Cool,

Is one better than the other as far as Branda or Drake? The Drake is more expensive.

Unfortunately It seems I no longer have any factory ones (at least I can’t find them), I also thought I had a nice pair of Mercury Script pentroofs that I can’t find - which is irritating....

I don't remember what the last two sets were, let me ask the owners, I'll get back to you.  The ones we had were nice

We used the Branda versions, they were beautiful and had a baffle

DO NOT buy the Scott Drake breather, I have had two here and both had metal wire screen/wool literally falling out of it where it would fall in the engine.  They are absolutely junk

The ones on my 390 dyno mule were from Scott Drake and were very nice.  They were baffled.

The area involving the baffle is always the tight spot but you should be able to make them work with almost any rocker.  Worst case scenario, you double up the gasket.

I am using the "Scott Drake" valve covers with Erson's. They have a baffle. I had custom stands made that were .030" taller to get my geometry correct. I also didn't care for the sloppy bolt holes in the original stands. Anyway, they wouldn't fit right away. I clay'd it and found the stand was contacting the baffle. I didn't want to modify the baffle so I ended up getting some .375" valve cover spacers from Medice Manufacturing. Very nice pieces. I also tried some 5/16" cork gaskets from DSC, but it didn't seem like it was going to be enough when everything was snugged down and the gasket compresses over time...

So, as a follow up, I picked up some Scott Drake. I think they may have been a return, because the box was closed in an X pattern by tucking the flaps under and I doubt they came that way. They are reasonably nice but the chrome around the bolt bosses (the recessed area) is not great.

They do have baffles and they resemble what I recall factory PBF covers looking like.

No way they are fitting without modification, 2 blue stripe gaskets won't do it.

As mentioned the area of interference is the corner of the rocker stand or more precisely the additional support between the end two cylinders, Harland Sharp do not appear to have these from pictures i find.

Options I see are cut and weld the baffles (or remove them, which I don't think is a good idea) or take the edge off the support (which I don't think is a good idea.)

Related? AMK bolts for "ALM or STL" are too long too or they would be if the steel covers would fit.

You may have missed it, but I mentioned that I ended up going with a set of 3/8" spacers from Medice Manufacturing. I glued the spacer to the bottom of the cover using TA-31 silicone, then used a regular gasket under that to the head/intake. I polished the edge of the spacer before I glued it to the valve cover, so it blends in fairly well. You really can't notice it unless you really look for it...

Thanks for the reminder...

I may consider that, definitely pricey but I'm going to have to pay someone to weld on the baffles so probably a wash. I could paint them blue I suppose...
