Title: '63 R Code Z Bar Difference
Post by: ForEver on November 11, 2019, 02:04:48 PM

I've got what (if memory serves) is a clutch equalizer (Z) bar for a 63 R code Galaxy. But the same bar for a 390 is very similar. This bar is massive. Maybe the 390 equivalent is a little less robust?
Are there markings or anything to tell them apart? I drag raced an R code in '71 after putting a C-6 in it, so this probably came out of it. I don't know why I would have the 390 version, but I want to be absolutely sure.

I was told that I'd have to use a clutch return spring relocation bracket in order to use the 427 z-bar. The 427 z-bar is slightly different to avoid the long tube headers. There is a guy by the name of Bob Bowers that makes new, beefed up, z-bars for the cars. He also makes a relocation bracket. I bought one from him, haven't got the car together to know if it was truly necessary, but I assume it is?
