Title: EFIN FAST
Post by: Stangman on May 15, 2019, 05:29:05 PM
So was looking at racing videos and came across a koenigsegg Agera it did 250 miles per hour in 27 seconds and from 250 mph to 0 in 9.5 seconds. Yeah I know we can’t afford it but WOW. What was the time that the AC cobra did 0-100-0 in 12.5 or 13 sec. And that’s fast!
0-250-0 in 38 seconds.     And that’s stupid fast!

And they just came out with a car that is faster than this.

There has been an ongoing discussion on YB regarding the engines that Koenigegg uses. Everyone seems to be in accord that they started out using the four-cam FoMoCo engine and still use the design, but now making all the parts 'in-house'.

They are claiming 300 MPH as possible. Most of you probably know that a 2006 Ford GT just made it to 300.4 at the Texas Mile several weeks ago.

Here's that 2019 301mph run on YouTube:

Same car in 2017

That's scary! That's faster than the 737 I fly with 54,000 pounds of thrust available.

Your 737 goes faster than 300 mph.  Not sure what you mean.

Koenigsegg is always breaking records.
Here's the fastest production car record they set in November of 2017. He doesn't lay into the throttle until 180 mph, then shifts into 7th at 220.

https://youtu.be/xj4gar5dKAU

They came to the U.S. to set that record.

They started out with a Ford 302 engine, and still use the same basic architecture for their current engine, but it's all Koenigsegg design at this point. The innovations they come up with is second to none and really sets the standard for hyper-performance cars.

The new Jesko is theoretically a 300 mph car, but they haven't proven its speed yet. Not an easy task to find roads long enough and flat/straight enough to test a car to that speed.

What was your first clue!?  Cruise speed was never mentioned. I was referencing acceleration/time.

Well, "faster" is kind of vague. I was just wondering. I understand now.   Thanks.

Cruise speed is about 583 MPH. Yes, the Boeing is substantially faster at cruise. However, the vehicle has a faster acceleration.

Comment on the above exchange. FAST is commonly used in regard to speed and QUICK is commonly used when referring to acceleration. :)

I`m thinking they should go for a cannonball challenge.

I note in the Koenigegg runs above they went much more than a mile. I repeat the '06 Ford GT went 300.4 in one mile from a standing start. The Texas mile claims all-out a top speed approaching 350.

Not exactly a good comparison, since the Ford GT is highly modified, and the Koenigsegg is as it came from the factory. Not taking away anything from the GT, it's an amazing car, but it is purpose built to do one thing.

I believe the block, crank, and heads are factory items on the '06 GT. They did change from a mechanical supercharger to a pair of turbos. The basic design is the same. All the Koenigsegg engines are hand built, and use turbos. It might be white eggs against brown eggs but the parallels are there to be seen.

I think I'll have a try at it using a Kaase B-9. THAT will be oranges and eggs. ;)

27 seconds to 250.... side by side with a Pro Mod (250 takes about 5.6 seconds)  the Pro Mod driver would be doing the TV interview on the return road by the time the Koni got to 250 several miles away.

You guys crack me up. Apparently nobody here likes performance cars.
Lets see a pro mod do this....

https://youtu.be/Vr9r81O5vN8?t=57

That's 0-186 mph, then back to 0, in 18 seconds, while barely touching the steering wheel. And that was 4 years ago, with the less powerful engine. The cars are unreal, anyway you look at it. And Ken, I'm pretty sure even Fords EcoTech engine is "hand built".  ::)

It is pretty amazing Doug. Some of theses cars are a lot of money but you can’t discount what they do. My dad bought a 64 GTO brand new I think it ran 14.20 stock, now my wife’s family Car runs that. But one thing you can’t get is the feel of getting on my car or your car. These new cars are very easy to drive. Our cars need to be driven but that’s the fun part.

I LOVE performance cars. And I'm partial to Ford. No one else anytime has gone from a standing start to 300+ in one mile when an impartial crew was doing the timing. There's a corvette tuner who claims to have gone 302 but he's strangely silent since M2K 'did their thang' in Texas.
