Look at that torque curve, that thing is gonna come on like a freight train. Awesome!! :o. Dont know alot about those blocks at .050 is that alot for those blocks or are they thicker than an FE.
-
I think that's a 525 HP engine if you rev it a little higher, Dean. Great job!

As with any old block, water sitting over time can rust the liners, and it is always a good idea to sonic test any of them before going very much over standard. Most can go +.060", but occasionally one is paper thin at +.030". My 2018 EMC 292 block is bored +.132" after sonic testing and offset boring. I have two 292 blocks that are +.040" and will be pushing the maximum at +.060". One 292 that is going to be good to .+125", so sonic testing is worth the time and money. Joe-JDC

Thank You Joe!

Nice thanks for the test, pretty good meat.

Dean the Blown 292 must make close to the power your 427 made.. Watch out FEs ! Y Blocks: Torque of a locomotive, RPM of a die grinder. And every one is a side oiler...

I'm shakin' in my boots - not ;D Royce, I see you are spouting the Y-block party line ;D

Dem sounds like fightin words, maybe a 332 FE against a 292 Y bock is in order one of these days!!!???. ;) 8)
-
I am all in! I have a 333 Y block itching for a fight
-
"Its not the size of the dog (motor) in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog", applies here

Can I bring my "lil" 292 to this competition? Joe-JDC

As for comparing dyno numbers, Jay probably has a couple of my 427 numbers in his archives.
Don't forget to compare these numbers, thick FE 427 block $4000+, thick Y block $100, FE forged steel crank $1000, forged steel $ sign Y crank $200
This does appear to be a call-out, when I first started the Nostalgia, heads-up racing with the gasser I got called out quite often, usually by shiny chebbies, after the first couple of seasons there were not very many call-outs any more...
Joe, bring your Y out for sure !

Great, something else to sidetrack Jay lol. He will never get those heads done
-
Dean you dont happens to have a link to the Ybloke enterprizes
cant find him. I happens to have a few Y-blocks and a 4/71 wheighting
down the shelfs :)
-
Heo,
on Facebook, search YBloke or Lindsay Shoemark, (no space between Y and Bloke)
I heard he is working on a installation kit with all the parts needed for the conversion..
my parts got to the states in a week but took over 2 weeks to clear US customs,
excellent casting and machine work.
if you order, be sure to order his crank pulley and adaptor if you opt for the big belt..

Thanks Dean

A blower with high swirl heads? The combustion chamber must be like a centrifuge.
-
The Y Block power production certainly does make your head spin! Can a Hi Swirl FE head be far behind? As out resident y block guru J.C. always says "There is magic in those over/under ports". LOL
-
Royce what do you mean by a high swirl head do you have any photos
-
LOL High Swirl means low flow ;D ;D
-
Actually High swirl in not completely accurate.. The Y block has a Ricardo chamber which is more high turbulence than swirl. The purpose was to prevent detonation from the sketchy fuels available in the early 50s . Turbulence gives a more homogeneous mixture of fuel and air and also reduces the amount of timing required for max torque. Where a small scrub needs as much as 40 degrees, I have never dynoed a Y block that needed more that 34 degrees..
Flow.... Not so fast Prof. Brown.. A stock G head on a 292 Y block flows about .75 cfm/cu. in. A 428 CJ head flows closer to .5 cfm/cu in
-
"Ricardo chamber"....Jay will counter with "You may be on Fantasy Island".Selling the Mermaid will allow you to repair the Ohio/Peruvian designed engine.
-
Peruvian??
-
Leema, as in Lima, Peru, or Lyma as in Lima, Ohio? The 429-460 engines were nicknamed "Lima" by some instead of 385 series. Joe-JDC

Thanks Joe for nailing that down.. Steve's references sometimes get a little obscure and tangential.. I should have figured it out but was hung up on Andes mountains and the Inca empire...

I’ve got a 330 (331) truck block that was running with a dodge Cummins turbo when I parked it.
Needs a freshening up but it would be fun to have a friendly grudge match.
