Title: WTB, SCJ for Feb ‘70 car
Post by: 6667fan on January 08, 2019, 10:13:39 AM
A recent acquaintance who has owned a Mach 1 for several decades would like to replace the 390 in his car with a SCJ like the one that the car came with.
Please send leads to me,
jwysocki@charter.net
We are both located in western Ma.
Thanks,
JB

A guy on the CJ Forum has a 9M PI engine that would be a good start.  Not sure if he is selling but I suspect he is.

Date code would be different for Shelby GT-500 SCJ for '70 model since they were '69 models that had their serial numbers changed to '70.  My '70 GT-500 was built in June '69, with 9D, 9E date codes.  Joe-JDC

Interesting about the Shelby stuff/ numbers. The owner of the Mach 1 perhaps has to play by different rules?
Rockhouse, thanks for tip but would a PI block have the C scratch? The owner will require that most likely.

Thanks all,
JB

Yes, Mach 1's would be different. Like Joe stated, '70 Shelbys were holdovers from '69. Mach 1's were not, and have dates specific to their year/month of manufacture. As far as the C scratch goes, that's just a bragging right that nobody will see, and will have to take his word on. I understand wanting a car to be as near perfect as a person wants to make it, but sometimes there has to be concessions, and this one wouldn't matter. Finding date code specific 428 blocks is no easy task. My friend just went through this last year to find one for a '69 Q-code GT that I sold him. It took him over a year of INTENSE searching, and 2 blocks, to find one that was usable.

Yes, any 428 block cast in that time frame will have the "C" on the back and the extra webbing for the mains.
