Only picture I have is actually a quick video when I fired the 390 thst captured a bit of the shop
https://youtu.be/KyMvrm2o77Y

Nothing fancy, 28x24 detached garage.  Wanted to be close to town recently which meant no big shop could be found.  Working on a plan to move outside town and build a proper shop.  Got as much equipment wise as I can without taking up too much footprint.  Air compressor,Mig welder, plasma cutter, drill press, 6x48” belt sander, parts washed, little welding table, 20t press.  I put a buffer and grinder on receivers I can slide into the welding table when needed.  I park two cars in the garage so it gets a little tight but it’s better than the typical 20x20 suburban deal.  12x24’ shed holds all the parts and lawn stuff so the garage stays uncluttered

I've got a 32x60 Morton with 4 overhead doors, and it took me a week of cleaning and moving just to have the room to pull the engine in my Galaxie ::)

I went from 24x24, to 24x48 and still not enough room.  Of course the Mack took one stall, so that really cramped my style, but it is nice having it inside.  I still have to walk over stuff to get around.  My buddy gives me grief.............and that comes from a guy with NO garage?  WTF.  Well his new residence is changing that with a 40x80 going up soon.  Then we'll see who gets grief!!!

I'll play along.... Top photo is my place after we got my Dad's gold Galaxie engine/transmission complete, so I started ripping into my '62. Bottom is a picture I like from my uncles place. He's got a lot cooler place with a lot cooler tools. Coincidentally my Dad's Galaxie made it into both pictures.

What shop looked like when we bought the place. Roof leaking and end wall on left was completely rotted out. And yep, it was painted pink with brown trim

On one end of shop build a bathroom/shower along with Hot Water Heater room.

Repaired the bad wall floated complete shop and added 4 2' x 8' Skylights so I would not need lights during daylight hours.

A rendering i drew up what I wanted it to look like.  No such luck health issues killed it. That would have been a DREAM shop!

Wow..........to be able to drive a bare metal truck around...........LOL!!   Not in Ohio   ;D   I do have a friend with a bare metal, original '41 Willly's with a hemi, but he clear coated it.

We were really dry all summer.  Now it rains every few days, which really brought the old yard back to green, but hard to keep a vehicle looking clean!  Though snow is on the horizon......ugh.

Post by: Dr Mabuse on October 09, 2018, 12:17:23 PM
I looked for many years for a garage, and finally purchased one 10 years ago, only 1/4 mile from my house.

It was probably built before 1920. I paid it off before I retired 5 years ago.

It is on a main North-South street in Wyoming, Michigan (a suburb of Grand Rapids), and adjacent to railroad tracks and a 75' right-of-way on the North end of the building.

In total, it is 6,000 square feet, with a 180 foot back wall. I added a 2,000 sq ft rental area by building a dividing wall on 2,000 sq ft of the North side, with a 10' x 10' overhead door. The main shop area is 180' x 30' deep, and my shop area is 90' long x 30' deep with another 10' x 10' overhead door.. The office area on the left side extends out 20', by 30' wide. The 14' interior height wood ceiling beams are supported every 20' by 18" tall steel I-beams.

I installed a #12,000 hoist that is wide enough the drive my dual rear wheel F-series trucks on, without needing to fold the West Coast mirrors.

It has a 30' wide, 2 ton overhead capacity crane that used to run the length of the building

This is my old shop (during a garage tour) in North-West Minnesota.  The property is currently for sale, since I took a new job in Missouri and am currently hunting for another shop.  The old shop was (is) 41' x 41', Heated and Air conditioned with 11' walls.  Hopefully I can find something with a bit more room.

You're lucky to have a hole in the ground. I just have a cardboard box with holes cut out for light. It's burnt to the ground 8 times over the last few winters while starting a fire to stay warm ;D

Twenty years ago I moved to the country to have space to construct a decent size shop.  Mine was nothing fancy....40' X 50' , no heat or A/C but it served me well while I was racing.  In 2011 I decided to modify it into a faux Texaco station.  Probably to relive my 20's when all the drag racers/ hot rodders hung out at Dewey's Shell on Main in Grand Prairie, Tx.  I began with the help of my former son-in-law and his 18 year old son.  That lasted two days.  After the three of us put up the main I beams.....they deserted me. No more help.  But with some ingenuity and my John Deere I was able to finish all the metal construction by myself.  I did pay someone to pour the concrete for the gas pump island but other than that....it was only me.  I was 67 when I started and 70 when I finished.  Three years....but hey....I'm retired, it was an enjoyable project.  Originally I had intended to only do the outside/ canopy and pumps, but my two sons insisted I construct an office to make the station more realistic.  I agreed if they would help with the inside framing.  So both of them, plus one of my grandsons did the framing / ceiling, but since they live two plus hours away guess who had to finish the office by himself?  I did all the wiring, which included relocating the electrical panel, putting in the insulation, wallboard/ painting, hang the interior door / interior window etc.  My oldest son did return to help me install the tin ceiling....that was the hardest part of the entire project.  I was glad my sons talked me into doing the office....it makes the project complete and give my car buddies a place to come and hang out.  I was striving for a late 40's - 50's look and I'm pleased with how it all turned out. Altogether it took 2-3 years to finish.  Cost?  I've kept all receipts, but haven't had the courage to add them up.

Not sure it qualifies as 'disorganized' but will tiny and crowded work?
I'm just glad that they both fit and I can kinda open the doors to get in them.
Have to juggle stuff around and put one outside if I actually want to do any work on either one.
There is about 1" of clearance between the truck cap and the door header when I back it in, wasn't sure that I was going to be able to get the truck in at all.
Since 'retirement' might be 'around' 2 years away I'm hoping that I'll have a larger shop that I can actually do work in, but for now this is it.

Some cool garages/shops in here! I also realized I don't really have any pictures of the garage or the shop themselves. This is probably the best picture I have of it from the inside as far as an overall view.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1907/44540077475_60c2b4e852_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2aRRxhg)20181020_063433 (https://flic.kr/p/2aRRxhg) by  (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156200076@N06/), on Flickr

40x60 with 2 roll up doors that are too short for much of anything. This is the first time I've had radiant heat in the floor and it's nice but there is one MAJOR drawback I didn't think about before hand.....every time I have to get on the floor for some reason the concrete is warm and I just want to take a nap.

On the far left is a 2016.5 Duramax (hate working on them). My 69 C10 Suburban. My 77 F250 turning into an F450 crewcab and my buddy's Nova on the far right. It seems wrong to have so many brand X's in the shop instead of Fords, but all my Fords are either projects waiting to be built or they are running fine and don't need to be in the shop LoL
