Title: Fe in 56 Ford

Thinking about selling off some cars and buy a decent 55- 56 Ford. So what is needed to put a FE
in a 56 Ford,besides the obvious like fuel lines and wiring.
 What engine mounts, I think you could use 56 mounts and swap sides or turn them upside down or?
What about  Trans mount? Headers? oilpan?

It was a long time back , I used original motor mounts ,stock  trans crossmember  and that was with a toploader 4 speed
original clutch linkage with FE clutch pivot.
I moved the radiator in front of the radiator cradle for fan clearence
exhaust was log manifolds ,so I don't know about header fit

If I remember correctly  I had to turn the motor mounts backward and that was it for the engine. Can't recollect about the trans mount or driveshaft length.
This was in the late 1960's

I mounted the transmission on the original mount then turned the engine mounts until they fit

I know the 55 &56 Fords have a different front suspesion setup, but FPA sells headers that say they are for 55 thru 59 full size Ford cars. I have them on my 428 4 speed 59 2 door sedan, and very happy how well they fit. I did have to modify my factory clutch linkage a bit, but no big deal. They are a bit longer than a typical "Shorty" header, so ground clearnace is not a concern, and at least on the 57-59s, the exhaust pipes can be routed like factory, above the trans crossmember, with no modifications needed to the crossmember.

I bought a '56 F-100 for $350 when I was 14. Took me a couple of years to save up enough money to buy a 351C from a '70 Mustang. I think I was 16 when I got it running. Had to fabricate some stuff but it wasn't a complicated swap if a 16 year old kid could do it. I did it in the driveway using my Dad's tools. He didn't have a lot, he wasn't a mechanic. I had to ride my bike into town to the machine shop to gets parts fabricated since all we had was a hacksaw and a 3/8 drill. I used the four speed from the Mustang but it would've been easier if I had used an automatic. Hooking up that passenger car four speed in the '56 required some fab work. Took me a while to get that all sorted out. By the time I was a senior in high school the truck was my daily driver. I also managed to win a fair number of street races in that thing. Didn't have a ton of traction off the line but it pulled hard once you got the tires hooked up.

Ricard, that's what i read or been told about the engine mounts

Rory, if I'm correct so the big difference 55 to 56 is spindelbolts
VS balljoints but the rest of the suspension i don't know

Andy, The F-100 is totally different from the passenger i have swapped
both 302s and Clevelands in F-100dreds with C6 and toploaders
I made new trans crossmember and used motor mounts from 30s
V8 Ford that i had laying around and made brackets on the engine
and on the frame. 10 years later all the streetrod companys started
to sell copys of my engine mounts :D made my own headers...
when i was young and ambitious ::)
on the toploader i Used a hydraulic clutch linkage with master and
slave from a Volvo Amazon.  Wilwood sell that Volvo (Girling) Master cyl now
Speaking of traction the f-100 with Cleveland 4V, when i shifted to
2nd the only thing that changed was tiremarks got blacker and more smoke ;D ;D

If you're looking at getting one from the U.S., PM me. I've got a complete, all original '55 2dr Customline sitting in the barn, and since you're looking at coming to Ohio next year anyway....

My dad is almost finished with his 462" in his 55. Same engine mounts, Crites headers and transmission mount, regular car FE pan. He did not use the complete Crites tranny mount though, went with a 63/64 Galaxie mount. Headers are very tight if manual and need some massaging.

Bruce, I bet they are nice cars. But nothing that i can afford :o
Me and Doug are slowly working out some kind of deal so lets see
what that brings, none of us is in a hurry

Yes, they're too $$$ for me also but thought you'd enjoy seeing some primo restorations.  My favorite is that black '57 Custom.  I don't think we'd mind seeing a photo or 2 of Doug's '55!

I have to dig it out of the barn first. The front doors are stuck from the barn settling. It's actually a pretty sweet car. Not quite as solid as the Galaxie, but just as original.

Yes the 57 is an incredible car  moonshine and all ;D
What I'm after is something more uncivilised.....tunnel
rammed FE  four on the floor,  some nice wheels , chromed rollbar
etc.... but on the other hand i have a 312 in the barn,and a truck 292
with steelcrank, and a 4/71 blower and.... :-\
