Title: Dragweek trailer
Post by: AlanCasida on May 19, 2018, 03:53:37 PM
I picked this little beauty up at a swap meet today. I think it will work out fine for Dragweek. I think I can get everything I need inside of it except my slicks. I might even be able to get the slicks in too I don't know...time will tell.  I can extend the tongue and mount the slicks on it if need be. When I looked at it I was concerned about it being big enough but the guy kept dropping his price to the point I couldn't pass it up. It was pretty obvious he did NOT want to haul it back home. It measures about 78"L and 24" w in the bottom with a total width of 37" The high point in the back is about 26". Even if I end up taking my Galaxie I still think I'll use it. It's nice to have everything in the trunk but it gets really old unloading & loading all week plus hoping all your stuff is still there when you get back.

Good find.
What about making a tire rack out of the little luggage rack on top? Is it stiff enough?
Maybe to much weight aft?

Here it is with everything pretty much loaded. If I leave my spare and suitcase in the trunk I'll be fine. I'll need to brace the lip around the lid though. One slick with the 10" steel wheel weighs 60lbs. With it all loaded like this I'll have 40lbs of tongue weight.

Looks good Alan.Possibly a drop hitch will be needed.Do a run on the highway and test before departure even having someone doing a visual for sway.Grease wheel bearings too.Think of the RPM with those small tires......Ain't that right Jay....smile

I was thinking about those little tires when I was looking at it. I am going to look into put some taller tires on it if possible.

I ran the small tires for years without any problems, but I think bigger tires would be safer...
