Title: Building a new rear end

Looking for advise, opinions, suggestions for building a new rear end from flange to flange from a clean sheet of paper for a Fairlane project. Car will be a 600 hp 4-speed. want to retain leaf spring set up with traction devices. No drag strip duty but it will be abused.  Talking housing to carrier to locker, spool or tru trac. 31 or 35 spline axles etc. Want it pretty much as bullet proof as possible. Housing I have now is a tapered tube 9 in that already has had spring perches relocated(horsecrap welds) that need to be redone. Thanks for any feedback!

I have had good luck with these guys, just had a brand new housing and gears made for my 66 fairlane to handle 700 hp.

I like Strange Engineering stuff but I'm biased towards the absolute best equipment. That said:

-don't buy your spool if you go that way from one vendor and the axles from someone  else as the splines may differ in ever-so-slight ways.
-spools IMO should never be used on the street.
-using you old rear housing may not be the best, smartest or easiest way to go. A brand-new 9" bare housing w/o ends is clean, straight, ready for welding and narrowing, all for reasonable prices these days.

MW splines are different but Currie can make axles to fit any of them. I used MW, Strange, Motive and Currie on mine.
I pieced it together on the internet and took all the parts to Currie and they assembled it all for $100 when I purchased the axles and new housing ends.

I did the same as that ^ but with a trutrac (do to my street usage).  Love it.

I will say, check prices with Quick Performance, they can build everything for only a lil bit more than you can buy the parts.

Detroit locker is stronger.
Tru trac is like driving an open differential until you hammer it.

My car has manual steering and brakes, it spends all of it's time on the street in cold/rain/etc.

You will definitely want to box in the leaf spring mounts so they do not collapse.

HI, I went with Speedway Engineering there stuff is like jewelry,  my housing with brakes rotors hubs was around $2000.00 you should look into it. Leny Mason

That was around 1998 and the parts are still in the car after x000s of passes and multiple gear installs, lockers, spools, etc.  I used MW Masterline, have had no issues with the splines being specific to MW products.  Car has 4.56 Richmonds and a Moser 31 spline spool in it right now.
