Title: Valve spring tool on car
Post by: 63.5xl on October 11, 2016, 10:40:02 PM
Anyone know of a good tool to replace valve spring on car for our rocker shaft type heads. I tried a search here but came up with nothing. I have dual spring and was going to leave the inner one out to break in cam.

I have one made by Tim Olereich that he used to sell on e-bay but I don't see it listed now.
His Email is: conceptdesigneng@aol.com, phone: 262-388-2509
This bolts to the head and works great.
I don't know if he still sells them or not but might be worthwhile to call or email him.

+3 for Tim's tool I just bought one off eBay about a month or so ago and it worked great. What I would've preferred though was to find a fitting to go in the spark plug hole to use compressed air instead of the supplied rope to hold up the valves.

Yeah, the rope wouldn't fit in a small plug application, so get an air adapter as well.
Otherwise it's a great tool, worked on my beehives with a lil finesse.

Most of the time you don't even need air, a rope, etc.  Put the piston at TDC, the valve seal will hold the valve up, and use a pen magnet to hold the valve stem if necessary on reassembly.  This is how I do it on the dyno....

+5.  I use that one, too.  It works great.   I just got some smaller diameter rope for my Edelbrock heads to ensure that the valve can't fall into the cylinder.

I use the hose from my compression tester connected to my air hose to hold the valve up.
