Title: My Grizzly Truck
Post by: 427Fastback on September 25, 2016, 11:26:14 AM
For those asking questions about my Grizzly or are just curious I will post a link to my refit/restore and refine project.
I have a thread going on over at the Heavy Equipment Forum. There is so much misinformation and lies on the net about these trucks I chose to document and post what I am doing .I have proven most of the storys to be false.

I have truck #1 of the 13 or 14 trucks built..You will not hurt my feelings if you think they are ugly. You either like them or you don't...

All I can say they are Grizzly.
I met one of the bear type in Glacier Natl. Park in the late 1960's. He was coming down the trail and I was going up -- alone. He got the R.O.W. since I headed downhill into the lake. My Myth to never be proven is you can run downhill faster than them. Besides I was a college swimmer at the time.
Best I can say is --- say that I'm still here.

Love the look of the truck !! Being a runner we say ON-ON..........

I have never seen a Grizzly (or brown)bear in the wild. There are not shortage of them here in BC but I am not in Grizzly country. For the most part they are an hour or two from me...Black bears are on my property every day this time of year...
Cant imagine the feeling of running into one on a trail....

What's not to like. Color matching jack stands & camera date. Cool. I really dig it. I want one. What will it be powered by?

It is powered by a Gen1 Cummins 12V...I am adding a intercooler. Also changing the fuel pin and governor spring. It has its original engine with 50,000 miles on it..
Also putting a NV 4500 5spd in..I have a new one here in the box.
Front axel is a Dana 60 (78 Ford) high pinion with king pins.
Rear axel is a Dana 70.Both axels completely rebuilt with 3.73 gears.Rear also has a Yukon Power loc in it..
No electronics and no computer...All old school....

Wow, just finished reading all 21 pages on the HEF so I can get up to speed. What an awesome build, thanks for the link!

Wornout Wrench's post #33 was spot on, cracked me up!

I worked for a Wood's Boss one time that was so hyper that when he turned his pickup around he would just backup till he hit something then go forward, Lol

Thanks..I add to it at least once a week..I am trying to put all the information about these trucks in one place.I am hoping other Grizzly owners will jump in.Other people have posted pics and added info that they have..My thread will at least give people a inside look at one..

We built the largest logging trucks in the world here In BC.Along with some of the largest prime movers ever built.
Pacific Truck,Hayes Truck and Challenger trucks were all built here and are well documented.Just trying to do what I can for the little Grizzly..

I am a 10 year Pacific Truck guy and somewhat still involved in them..

The styling... makes me think this is what a rig would look like, if it was built to be a "pretty" Russian made vehicle. If you know what Russian vehicles sometimes look like. The allure of this vehicle is definitely it's no nonsense, no frills design. Very military like.

Grizzly, as I've said before, love the truck!

But now, after seeing more pics, man, that ride is just begging for some hot rod flames painted on the side! Or, maybe some insignia on the doors at least. A wrap that says "Grizzly Bear"! Or something unique.

Thanks guys....funny you mention the wrap.I had thought about getting a wrap across the nose of the truck of the head of a very angry Grizzly....

Front fenders are out for paint right now and I have a interior guy fixing up the interior..Then its road test time..

Tom...I understand the red truck lives outside all year long as it wont go in his garage.

Drove the truck out of its den yesterday.First time it has moved under its own power since I started all of this..It was a dry day for a change. Now its just bloody cold...Interior is just about finished..I will wait for good weather before I road test it..No real rush..
My shop is heated so I am working away on putting the 68 back together and finishing the 66 428CJ Fastback project..

You have a point but I don't see the fun in road testing it in the pouring rain.My days of laying in a puddle to adjust something are behind me...( I hope)..I may go get plates this week
