Scott hit the chip at 1000 feet....coasted to a 9.18, hence the 131 mph. Missed on gear selection just a little. They are gonna bump the chip 400 rpm. Probably get in the 8s but still won't quite make the finish line.......until the last day, lol. Jack said he went 1.25 in 60' leaving off idle, no trans brake, still 300 lbs over the min at 3300.
Nice run for Mr. Jay. Hope all the FEers have a good trip!+

That time seems WAY off. I think Doug planned to run significantly faster. Hope he didn't break.

If he could get the car to hook and have a good run, at that MPH he should be able to run in the 11's.

Car finally hooked good this time, but nobody told me you needed to let off the line lock when you hit the go pedal. Finally realized what I did about 30' off the line. Stupid rookie mistake. Didn't miss any gears, so that was good, but my speed didn't improve any with the 4.30 gears. Might help if I wasn't dragging the front tires..lol
Way off what I was hoping to run, but hopefully I can get better each day. The starter Bendix is going out, so may be changing that tomorrow. Just happy to make it to Norwalk at this point. The route was a convoluted mess, but the car and trailer handled it great. Managed to find a place to change my front tire after I left National Trail, and they were great about getting it done pronto for me. All in all, a satisfactory day. Now if I can just remember, this isn't Beaver Springs, so forget about the line lock on the line.

Thanks for the update Doug. We are all rooting for you. Day 1 jitters are done so I have no doubt you will make big improvements on Day 2. You got this!

For those of you on Facebook, Roadkill just posted a nice interview with Scott Miller and his 502ci Cougar. That engine looks like a beast. Can't wait to see how he run's today.

Jay just ran! I love how a naturally aspirated "9" sounds like a disappointment to the announcers LOL 3:55 on the youtube MT channel if anyone wants to reference. :0)

Scott went 9.13 @ 144. Only moved the chip 200 today. More to come..... it still needs to make the trip. They are having fun, and that is the main goal. Hoping for safe and trouble-free cruising for Scott, Jay, Doug, and the whole FE contingent.

Alway's felt the great bonus of a stick was an ability of push-starting it.... Heck, is push-starting LEGAL at Drag Week? Gathering a few by-stander's for a push start? ?

Roadkill on Facebook just posted a video of Jay changing a cam in his SOHC. In the video, Jay confirmed he had rocker issues that took out a cam. :(

Yeah I could see that it was trying his patience! Very gracious of Jay to hang in as long as he did.
Hopefully with a full compliment of working rocker arms he'll pick up a tenth or two...

David Freiburger mentioned something about an FE crowd Lynch-Mob showing up in front of Jay's house and encouraging him along
The good side of Jay's Rocker/Cam issue is he runs a dry sump so debris and oil must make it clear to the reservoir before it gets pumped back through the motor.... The scavenging pump sections well that's why they use suction strainers.... hopefully needle rollers being steel all found their way to magnets...
One thing after Jay swapped out literally hundreds of FE intakes for writing his book, maybe changing a cam and a few rockers doing a run and then changing another questionable rocker before hitting the road on his SOHC in the pits at Drag Week is not as brutal as it appears.
Brian stated Jay's car has an early Pro/Stock style hood scoop --- so much for the SHELBY on steroids look.
I recall in the industrial oiling product mfgs catalogs a return strainer with electric sensing capability that indicated metal debris in the return oil piping lines. They were for big money applications like turbines, compressors, hydraulic systems and paper making machines - for maintenance guys that don't want big surprises. Never sold one or even got to see one up close. I'm thinking it worked like a bug-zapper with the metal debris creating the contact/alarm. Would it help to know within seconds when engine components particularly roller rockers start shedding metal?.............

From what he said in an interview he changed a couple and left one in to be changed later.

Jay got a nice interview spot on the live feed. Someone oiled down the track so they put on some "added footage". I've been sitting at work today with the live feed in my headphones. I haven't been able to catch Scott Millers Cougar or Doug's Mustang yet.
The very last pass of the day was a memorial pass for a racer who had been killed. His friends were racing his car and they packed the chutes with his ashes. It was a very cool tribute.

Scott Millers Cougar was earlier in the day...... Nice hook up. Front wheels up off the staring line and a solid pull. Unsure what his #'s were though

Anyone know what Scott's numbers were? I didn't see him run. Saw Jay and Joel and how about that run just before the memorial one where Lutz went 6.10 on his only pass with no chance to rerun.

Come on guys wake up: Jay left a questionable rocker on the opposite bank from where he changed the cam to work on (after the run of the day).
I don't have a clue how involved it is to change one rocker on a SOHC

What's cool about those pics is that I have old pics of Dyno Don and Jon Kaase leaning almost identically over the fenders of his world-beating Pro Stock SOHC Maverick at the long closed US 30 drag strip in NW Indiana!

This year, we have two people from here in the mix. Don Smith in a black Belair, running mid 10's and Tom Ciancitto in a 37 F1, running in the mid 9s. Tom's been testing at the track here for a couple of weeks.

Yeah, not trying to shoot the messenger Jody. I'm guessing looking at it the calculator was behind on the temperature it was using at the time. Thanks for following along. Jay & Steve made it back to the hotel last night fine. Joel had charging system troubles last night, but far as I know they made it back. The track opens at 11:30am today and we start running at 1:30pm.

I have that site linked from the front page of the track web site here. BTW, it's cool this AM, clean air and a fantastic 2981 DA. Problem this summer has been that the DA at the airport 10 miles from the track might be 3000 and the track 4500 because it's raining at the airport and not at the track LOL. So it depends on where you get the reading because airdensityonline gets it's data from the closest reporting NWS weather station, NOT the track it's self.
This is what great 3500 DA does to my bitty 300HP 302 car:
