Super quick 390. Sure wish the clone could run those numbers. Thor is doing a great job gradually getting it going though.
Did Thor port your Edelbrocks? He sure knows what he's doing. What was the DA at the time of that run? The air pretty much sucks at Spokane and the track prep too. LOL

Mission is pretty close to sea level, so I'll bet the DA was pretty low. Wish we could run Drag Week at that track...

That run was yesterday and the conditions today are very similar so I checked an online site and the D/A shows 830 feet. Actual track elevation is about 25' above sea level. I don't have a weather station however when I asked a friend yesterday they said the D/A was 600'. It can get below 0 here early and late in the season and early morning but also above 2000' on a hot muggy day.
Yes, Thor is doing a great job on Afret's Stocker and he did do the Stage XR7 porting on the 390 heads. We call him "The Smart Viking" because he really does have this stuff figured out. I suck with numbers and hate thinking. You guys should bring the car up for the National Open here and let it rip.

Yeah, maybe Thor might be able to get the car up there but he has so many things going on at the same time. I know he's dying to get his Cougar done and out to the track. He's too nice a guy and ends up helping everyone. LOL
Boy, a negative DA would be something. I guess a jet change would be needed. :) I heard Ritchie Pauley went up there some time ago and did such a big wheelie he cracked his block where the oil pump bolts on when he landed. It was supposed to have been a sleeved 427 block. :'(

How did you get an 11 inch tire under the 67? Did you move the leaf springs ? I am doing a car exactly like yours

Nothing is move but tire brand is the important factor. My 29x11x15 Goodyears are on a 11" rim with a 6" backspace and they just barely touch the springs and inner wheelhousing in a couple spots. My M/T's are 28x11.5x15 on 10" rims with a 5" backspace. They don't touch anywhere but also don't tuck under the car as well. My wheelwells are opened a little and the lip is rolled. I'd think a 28x10x15 tire on a 10" rim with a 5" backspacing would be a safe fit although nothing is certain. Borrowing someone's setup for a test fit would be an ideal situation.

i have been running mild 390s for almost 40 years thats the quickest 390 i ever heard of. man,i would like to have a 390 that runs that well. im jealous!

Thanks.. It's not really anything special but more like I lucked into a good combination with the parts I had. I don't play with the tune up as long as things work which seems to be happening. Don't think there's any more MPH to be had although I'm a bit surprised it's as high as it is. The ET could and should be better if I can ever figure out how to leave harder without spinning the tires but overall, I'm pretty happy with the deal.

Its right down against the Fraser river, and the river valley itself is practically flat all the way to the ocean. Its still tidal to past the Mission bridge, which is upstream of the track, if that's any indication. I saw -800' corrected once on a jacket morning in late March.

How about loosening up the clutch to stop the tire spin
I can adjust the clutch but one run the car hooks and the next it doesn't with zero changes The air here is good in the morning but can go away quickly. Trust me, I've tried every adjustment and part that's supposed to be the magic cure but in the end it comes down to track prep. Big tire cars don't care as much but us small tire stick guys need a good start line.

Nope.. but then I haven't done anything to affect a change. I went a 10.16 the end of last year at a different track but mostly this is a 10.20 runner. The engine seems tight and slows down with the heat. I've been running an old worn out 428 this season that has gone 9.83 and it's not as sensitive to the weather conditions.

I've heard the 14' above as well but their website says its 25'. I've also seen it at -1800 feet on a cool clear fall day way after racing season has ended. Thing is that's never race conditions because when the air is that cool, the rack is too cold to prep or race on. What starts off at 8AM around 200 feet ends up 800 or more by 10AM and usually over 2000 feet by noon on a typical summer day. First hit is your chance to be a hero but after that you join the average.

It's borderline tragic ;D I've used this same engine before and it would do 10.0's on a regular basis. Had a look at things a couple years ago and other than a set of fresh roller lifters everything is the same. Now it burns oil at an idle and I almost can't stop it from running 9's. Oddly, the MPH is pretty much the same. Did take some timing out so maybe it's happier.

Not a ton to share. I kinda borrowed this engine several years ago and the owner doesn't want it back. Before I got it, Jim Waldo did a freshen and it has his home made cross bolts. Stock Ford crank, Eagle rods and some unknown pistons that are .045 over. I was shocked that they are flat tops until I turned the Dove heads over and saw they were the small (352) chamber size. Both intake and exhaust ports are considerably smaller than my Dove heads but seem to work well. Cam is a custom Comp Roller of just over .700 lift. Intake is my Dove T-wedge with a pair of 600 vac carbs.
Tough old dog this one as it ran similar numbers in the owners Fairlane and keeps on ticking in spite of the abuse.

Not this year (again) Gene. Too far to haul my car and Jim's is apart getting freshened. A friend of mine who's never been is though. His name is Jamie Roth and he is taking his 64 Comet to run in Hot Rod class. It's a SBF stick car, the guy can drive and it runs 10.0's up here. Look him up and say nice things about me...

I am going to be there, i'll keep Jamie in line...or push him in the line if needed.
By the way Google Earth shows between 24 and 27 feet for the track but it shows the river as 7 feet and sure ain't twenty feet down even at low tide.
I am not sure if the sea level is based on high or low tides? Whatever, it is sometimes really good air even in the summer. I've run in -1500 feet there , first pair out in the morning and in fog so thick I couldn't see the scoreboards and lifted early and missed the perfect chance to go 9's.
