Hi folks getting close to finishing my 66 galaxie turbo build.
Forged pistons, eagle rods. 230/236 @ .050 cam, ported Eddy heads, Garrett 4202 turbo,4" exhaust. Programmable MSD 6AL2 & T56 speed trans hydraulic clutch conversion. Mustang Cobra 13" discs. I gotta hook up the intake, boost cooler and some more items and of course tune. The carburetor in the car is just for break in; I am modifying a double pumper for boost. no more room for the battery . that thing should have some good torque numbers , by the seat of the pants anyway .

Great project, I'll be watching closely. I've often thought about doing a turbo conversion on my car. What sort of boost are you planning g on running?

10 lbs to start. Headers were a nightmare; took cutting and piecing two sets.

Garrett 4202a 74/84 T6. Took it for a spin at 8lbs WOW!Full boost at 3500 RPM. In 2nd at 45 MPH I floored it and spun the rear tires on boost. I changed the powervalve to open sooner and went with smaller emulsion tube jets. Its hovering around 13/14-1 AFR and about 13 at boost. Gotta fine tune the running and boost retard curves. Water/meth and more boost after tuning!

Put water / meth in it and got the jetting real close; had to put a QFT metering block and tap the carb for bleeds. ready to put on the dyno for fine tuning!

Great to hear. Good luck on the dyno. I'm curious what water/meth nozzle sizes and pump pressure you are starting with and if you are going to measure your exhaust back pressure during the runs. In any case I'm sure it's quite a thumper in that Gal!

OK took it to work; at 80 MPH car is pulling about 9-10" vacuum and spinning at 1900 RPM. The morning temp was low 70s and afternoon 81 degrees. 51 miles round trip MPG was slightly over 15 with no hood! AFR high 14s. Those two overdrive gears on the t56 work! Gonna fit the intercooler on and machine the compressor housing for a 76 mm wheel then Dyno time!
I put a guage on the exhaust pre turbine and got about a 1-1 back pressure to boost ratio. Not sure if thats right but after the new wheel goes on I'll see if I need a smaller A/R for the exhaust turbine housing currently a T6 1.15 A/R. Love the car. A 1957 farilane y- block turbo will be next (I know its not an FE ;)) If anyone is interseted in the jetting specs and mods of the Holley I can post them.
BTW I'm running 10-1 compression and no pinging on 91 octane on my tune.
Im using a Snow performance Boost cooler stage 1 and using the 625 ml/min nozzle. (pump says 300 psi)

Great update! And good to hear of another turbo street engine running successfully with a "normal" compression ratio. I havent done a turbo blow through carb set up, just used the ford eec fuelie stuff on small blocks and we made sure we had plenty of timing pulled as boost comes up and especially under low rpm and high boost cells to keep max cylinder pressure at bay. I am curious why you are going to plumb in an intercooler with a Blow through set up using a water/alcohol kit? I haven't got all my peices together for an fe based turbo kit yet but my basic plan was to run either a borg warner s475 or s480 or a pair of s366 and use the ford eec system using a holley single plane manifold and apply the same strategy learned from doing 351w and 302 stuff. Sorry for all the questions but not alot of turbo fe builds out there yet lol. And I'm a fan of your build!

Wow, 80 mph at 1900 rpm sounds like a salt flats car 8) High 14s on the AFR seems a bit lean compared to what I've been able to get away with, but it must work on your combo. Is that at a cruise speed and are you pulling timing out at that point? Also, 15 mpg is pretty good. Nice build, can't wait to see the dyno run.

The idea for the intercooler was because even at no boost the air is heated from the turbo. I don't know how much but I'm a glutton for punishment. i've been collecting 5.0 FI stuff for a future windsor turbo build or swapping the injectors and doing a Y-block FI / turbo conversion. The high 14 AFR is no boost minimal throttle at 1900 rpm. 1st gear is 2.97.

Here are my boost/vacuum curves; initial timing is 18 BTDC, total is 43 at full advance; the MSD pulls timing out.

a turbo charged Y block would def be pretty cool. Lovethis build. not many data points out there for successful turbocharged fe's out there

A small piece of silicone got into the turbo oil feed and killed the flow of oil and in the process of ruining the bearings the slop ruined the compressor and turbine wheels. I'm putting a gt4294 in place of the 4202 for faster spool. engine is running out of fuel gotta put in the aeromotive pump. To anxious to see the dyno numbers to put the intercooler in. I'll keep you posted!!

Ouch, sorry to hear about the turbo problem. Can you put a filter screen of some sort on the oil line to prevent this kind of thing from happening again? I know that you don't want to restrict oil to the turbo at all, but there ought to be something you can do there. Also, where did the silicone come from, was it excess from a gasket or something? FYI, a sealer like Ford TA-31 doesn't tend to have those little stringers that can come off and clog stuff up, even if it is overused.

silicone probably came from me. Still waiting to have some time for the new fuel lines and pump and boost referenced regulator. maybe this weekend?!

Finally built the baffled plumbed tank; should be 27 gallons. just got to install with feed and return lines. Using 1/2 lines with Aeromotive 13212 regulator. Getting closer to dyno time.(http://) After it's dialed gonna put 3.50s and discs in the rear.

You're my hero man! I've been planning a turbo FE in a F100 for quite some time and it's finally time to get serious with retirement around the corner. Was the turbo addition your plan all along or did the opportunity just happen? Thanks for your time!

That is some tedious tunning to boost 10.1:1 compression. What kind of exhaust temperatures can you get away with the Edelbrock heads?

Ive been planning the build.
I used a Quicktime scattershield/bellhousing. I had to machine an adaptor pilot as the chevy shaft is smaller than the ford. The adaptor also moves the pilot bearing out about .100" if I remember. I will post more pics of the underside once I get it on a lift.

Long story short, I broke 3 ring lands; it was a very hot day and the water injection did not work due to an error from me. I had a Comp Cams XE274 custom ground to have a 114 LSA and proper boost capable pistons with the new compression down to 9.4-1. Runs great and needs some more tuning. when I get it as close as I can by feel and examination Dyno time!!
