Title: 1964 ford falcon all moly tube car
Post by: fairlanegt427 on August 11, 2015, 11:35:27 AM
finally got my butt to the track and had a great time testing.  it was hot as hell out 80 degrees with 77% humidity.  made 4 passes at top end dragways in sabin m.n.  heres the time slips attached and rough overview of motor it is a robert pond aluminum 427 with blue thunder medium riser heads, 4.250 bore and stroke,12:1 compression,  edelbrock 427f intake and a pro systems 1250 dominator,  a rollerized c6 and 4:56 gears.  i had barry from survival build this thing for me and it made 705 hpwr.  thanks alot barry i could not be happier to say the least about how this engine performed.  here are some time slips attached and ill try to link motor on dyno from youtube if i can.  any questions feel free to ask i have nothing to hide

i cant get a time slips to attach toobig so i will type them.   1st pass ever running kind of  hard 1/8th mile 60ft 1.32, 660ft 6.10 1/8th mile time and then let off.   2nd pass saturday60 ft 1.29,   660ft 6.03 mph 113 and then let off.    sunday 1st pass i ran a full 1000 ft pass because i dont have a license yet and i did get in trouble from the track owner and had to apologize to him  here goes  60 ft 1.31  660ft 5.99,  990 ft 7.78 and then i let off the throttle completely overall 1/4 e.t. was 9.628 with me letting off at the 1000ft mark.  2nd pass on sunday i let off between the 1/8 mile and 1000ft mark and heres these times  60 ft 1.28,  660ft  6.002,  990ft 7.83  and the 1/4 overall with me lifting way short was a 9.798  the track owner was happier but he did shut me down i do understand but it was fun as hell.   i wiil send jay my scanned slips and maybe he can get them to post on this.

I went back to the vid and it says victor intake in the description there. No problem. What kind of rpm are you turning with this setup? I agree with fekbmax, gotta have three pedals!  ;D ;D

it originally had a boss 302 with a 4 speed lenco and reverser,  the previous owner ran 10.00 and had to retire from racing (health issues),  too bad beacause i bet it was no slouch either.  i did have that option of buying the lenco.  the hyme ends on the linkage arms on each shifter were just wore out and it was a lenco only thing and at the time it was about 2 grand for just those and i just couldnt afford at the time,  thats why i stuck with the fully rollerized c6.  my tranny shop is a ford specialist on drag trannys he runs mid 6s in the quarter and has many track records in my area even though he runs a 385 series ford it is just stupid fast.  but i do have to do something to be more consistent with launches i.e. trans brake etc etc,  foot braking and line lock just isnt consistent enough when your trying to go rounds.   i am a ford guy through and through and i just cant bring myself to buying a power glide.  i will just have to explore the tranny option this offseason.  in case anybody wants to know the trans shop in my area is schmidt transmission.   in dickinson n.d.  (for an excellent ford racing trans)   this is the second one i have had done and have had zero problems with ricks transmissions.

(nightmist)  i did miss your previous question.   but i do twist it to 6800 is how i had it built.  the convertor locks up at 5600 is where peak torque is. and if i have to work on anything is a burnout.  the tires are brand new but at least 10 years old so i know their is time to be gained their for sure.i do promise to all that video will be posted up next week sometime.

Living in South Georgia, I *wish* it would get "hot as hell out"  :P

Seriously tho, nice run, great car!  good luck

hopefully these 2 videos will attach to this page.  the one with a friend guiding me to the line is from 3 weeks ago,  the second one is from this past weekend at top end dragway in sabin m.n.  doing my 1000 ft mid license passes,  so far this car is running great thanks again barry at survival.  tuning wise I have just been playing with jetting,  I still haven't found the top end of jetting the more I give it the more it likes as far as et and mph

heres go pro of the first full pass, during license.  I  thought I had low oil pressure running down the track but I was wrong.  the gopro is pretty darn good tool to have.  this was late last summer.                                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6qC0u_YCR4

Barry.  I am trying like hell to get out to beaver springs but I am not making any promises.  I would love to have you do your tuning magic on it. ;)

Mean Gene.  when I bought this falcon it had a boss 302 in it, and a lenco.  I bought it from a guy at the time as a roller,  he kept the drivetrain.  I am thinking it was about 8 to 10 years ago.   but the guy he bought the car from was in Washington state.  Is that you?

Looks like it spent time between 7200 and 7400 on that interior video  :)

Cool videos, and a healthy car! Just like I think the dyno section should be required to have photos, I think the Strip Results section should require video :)

Watching the oil pressure gauge, it drops for just a split second as you launch. I wonder if it's uncovering the pick-up for just a moment?

i have shift lite at 6500 that way its at 6800 when i bang  the next gear.  from that angle it looks higher but it hasn't been past 7200 per the tattle tale tach and that is at the end of a full pass.  And so far i have only been able to do just 1.

I noticed the oil pressure drop on launch and at the end of the full pass also when i popped the chute,  it dances around a lot then also.  wonder if Barry can chime in on the oil pressure down spikes on launch and at the end off throttle.  as much as i don't want to put more "stuff" on my car,  is a pressurized oil accumulator something i need or do i just live with it?
Title: Re: 1964 ford falcon all moly tube car

I think an accumulator would solve the problem and save a lot of bearing wear on the motor.  You really don't want to see the oil pressure drop at any time on the track.  If you don't want to do that, you could try adding an extra quart of oil and seeing of that solves the problem.  My Galaxie had a tendency to drop oil pressure at the end of the track on decelleration, and an extra quart and a half of oil solved the problem.

I'm still a big fan of the accumulator, I think it's good insurance for many instances including hard launching cars and the negative G's at the end of a pass.

I agree with the accumulator.  but I am going to add some more oil first and see if that fixes the problem,  oils still cheaper than accumulator.   if it doesn't work then ill put accumulator on.  im just tired of hanging more weight on the front of this thing

Sorry for the delayed response - - just no time....

I would follow the herd and toss an extra quart in first.
Video the gauge.  We need more videos anyways :)
Accumulator is a good idea.

thats what im gonna do, add another quart of oil and video.  and if it dont work then ill spend the 500 bucks and put accumulator on.  ill post some more videos but i gotta wait about a month yet before we go vroom vroom ;)
