I haven't really done much to the car in awhile as Im still recovering from a shattered elbow from work I did in 2011. Had surgery June 26th 2012, rehab, etc.. felt real good and went back to work in Jan. of this yr, and buggered it again beginning of June, and cant really do much heavy work so Im off work again till they figure what to do. ANyways,, still trying to plug away at it.

Still waiting for a ride in that bad boy Gord
-
well Gord, when I get it done, I just might make it to the loops one yr.
-
That looks like a REEEEEEALLY tight squeeze to get that engine in between those upper tubes!! Can you even get the valvecovers off?
I've owned about a half dozen '60-'63 Falcons over the years, and a Comet or two. Good luck with your build, and recovery.
-
I can take the covers off no problem,, well,, almost no problem :) master cylinder is to the left of the dr side bars and can even take off the lid to that..easy access to the starter too..
thanx
-
+1 on the recovery! I too have owned a few Falcons, mainly Rancheros... I encourage you to keep going on that nice FE hotrod and see it thru to completion.
Bruce
-
I try to do some stuff on the car when I can. heres a pic after surgery last yr,, and its swollen the same amount lately. Im lucky if I can pick up 20lbs with my left (and also im left handed), physio every day, etc.. trying to get some strength back and see if I am capable of going back to my trade or if I need retraining. we'll see.
-
patiently waiting :) think I might need to make a taller hood scoop
(http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/new_falcon_owner/falcon/009-1.jpg)
-
hood placed on with the tunnel ram spaced up.. not sure if I should go with the street scoop or the cobra oval air cleaner (still need a base and filter for the oval one).
-
That scoop looks good on there, but its hard to deny the appeal of the oval air cleaner on an FE in a '60s car...
-
yeah im really torn on what to use.. a friend even offered me his hilborn scoop.. but I do think the oval wins, with using a 3in K&N filter :)
-
I got a t-bolt style scoop to try once everything is bolted up. its the galaxie size one, so should fit the Falcon hood a lot better. Heres a quick placement picture. I need a new hood so I can play around with this one to get the right look
(http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/new_falcon_owner/falcon/005.jpg)
-
got a 64 Falcon racing apron to try out on my 62. The guy that makes them and I decided to cut it in 3 pieces incase it needed to be shortened or lengthened and to ease install. I just taped the ends up, and seems to be about 2 inches or so longer then the 62 so the 64 is wider. Anyways, spent a few minutes to mocking up the ends so get a feel to how much work I will need to make it fit right.. Once I get more time on it I will take better notes and better pictures, but till then heres a sneak peak.
-
I picked up a Cobra 2x4 oval air cleaner to modify. Heres the end results
(http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/new_falcon_owner/falcon/002-8.jpg)
-
got my c6AE- U heads back from the head guy today, and installed my rockers and shimmed them up.
now I have all my stuff to put the solid cam in and break it in.
hopefully couple weeks I will have it running
-
got all my gauges finally, abit of trimming to do still on my plate, but heres what it will look like when assembled
(http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/new_falcon_owner/falcon/002-10.jpg)
-
That's going to look pretty good! I like new style gauges in factory type surroundings...

rebuilding the carbs and waiting 8)

got my adapter today and spent some time tonite at work to trim the tunnel ram

I got my heads bolted on and torqued, so thought I would see what the intake setup would look like

Looks good! 8) 8)

thanx
soon as I find a single 4 intake, I will do the cam swap and break it in with that. then try the tunnel ram once its done :)
-
starting to convert my tunnel ram for the intake adapter into a fuel injection unit.. mocked up the top part so far. hopefully get the injector tube holes and rails done in the next few weeks.
on with a few pictures

-
Hey, that's pretty cool! Did you cut an oval air cleaner lid to make that top? It looks pretty neat with the fins and 427 badge.
I thought you were going with a 2x4 carb set-up? What made you change your mind? I also think you may need a bigger throttle body to feed that engine! :)
-
yes it was a Cobra oval air cleaner
(http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/new_falcon_owner/falcon/1.jpg)
then I ground down the Cobra
(http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/new_falcon_owner/002-4.jpg)
I wanted to use my scoop I made (I really liked that one) and keep it under it instead of raising it 6 inches. I don't think it would of looked right.
I will be getting a new throttle body once its all done up,, Accel makes a 1000cfm one and will be using 42lb injectors.
-
Got my fuel rail holes drilled yesterday, thank you Howie (ScotiaFE) took some pictures of the rails installed with injectors. I misplaced 1 injector but they are just mockup ones anyways..

managed to find a Torker intake Friday so I will be using that to break in the cam and check for leaks, etc. till my fuel injection intake is finished.
cleaned the intake, painted my headers and motor, timing cover, etc. anyways, hoping to break in the cam next weekend. Video to follow if I get that far.
heres what it will look like in the meantime.

Looks great, Rick. Nice to be able to pop on the Torker for the break-in...
-
Love the Air Cleaner. Actually purchased the same one for my SOHC project and was able to source the "Thunder-Bird" emblem that say SOHC instead of the 427. Awesome build!!! I love the Falcon... little car and big engine.... worked for Shelby!
-
finally welded up the plenum on the tunnel ram this week.. just needs abit of touch ups then I can beadblast it. Waiting on the tig machine at work to get repaired then get the injector tubes and fittings for the rails tig'd up.

started the motor today, no problems at all, started right up, broke the cam in,, sounds great to me, but I used a shitty camera to record.

-
I am so pumped.. I haven't been able to drive it yet,, but hoping august sometime for at least a quick cruize
Hope everything goes smooth for you. You either live in the country or in a deaf neighborhood. Either way that's a plus...lol
My country neighbors probably thought I was nuts when I was running my Mach up and down the road checking everything after breaking in the cam.....with no front end on the car. ;D
-
yeah the country,, one neighbour is a car guy, other side is never around, and across the street is a cemetery and they don't mind
-
my tunnel ram fuel injection is almost finished..

I put my sidepipes on I got few yrs ago as well,, cut thru the rocker,, and now connected to my headers with 3-1/2 in flex exhaust. it runs and starts. I was going to drive it a few blocks for a car show on the weekend, plumbed my front brake lines, new calipers and hose,, and the right side caliper leaked.. needless to say I never made it :(

Sounds good. :) Which transmission are you running?
I have the same shift knob and also put a button in it for the line loc last year. I thought I would be the only one to have that, lol.

cut the old driver rocker panel pieces off (3 separate pieces),, and set up and welded the one I took off a parts car.. soon as I clean off the car and drive it outside,, I will get a better picture of the whole car.. Will be the first time I can take pictures of both sides and not be ashamed :)

Great Stuff!
This must be the first time you put pressure to the rails?
I always wondered if they would hold. ;)
Hope to see you bring it in town for some cruise night or something.
-
no I did last fall and the rails held up great. just the tubes were off set and all different planes,, so I got my friends dad to tig new bungs on, and he remembered he sucked at tig welding and melted all my new bungs. So I bought new tubes and used the spool gun at work and put them at the angle so my throttle cable would fit proper.. Ive got a lot of flack for having them at an angle but we will see if it works. I got a new pressure regulator and it works proper and not feeding fuel into my engine so that's a bonus.
I do plan on getting it on the road in august and driving it, at least to work and around
-
It will work fine with the injectors at an angle like that. The angle is not that extreme; I've seen setups where the runner is nearly horizontal and the injectors are vertical, and they don't have any problem.
-
got my new rims finally mounted

You may want to throw a couple clamps on the bypass hose before to try to start it again.
-
good eye. :)

rear half of my cage is done

-
Looking good. I like how you ran the cage behind the fuel cell. Thanks for the updates.
-
I have watched your build on a couple of different places. It takes a lot of time as I know from working on my car for 10 years now. I know you must feel good with the progress you've made. Keep plugging along it looks greatso far!
-
here is my first decent picture of the car without anything clouding it, or in the way. I didn't put the hood on (should of) but I really like the way this car has turned out so far.
-
Coming along nicely. :)
-
Just wanted to drop a quick update on the FAST EZ efi "Fuel" handheld upgrade. I haven't taken the car out on a drive yet, but it comes in super handy now that all of the ratios and info are all on 1 screen (no need to scroll through different screens. You can also adjust more of the fuel options (Cold start, accel fuel and cranking fuel), which I plan on using this weekend. So far, its a pretty good 300.00 investment :0) Was really just plug and play
-
thanx, that's good to know.
My original handheld seems to work ok,, its getting cold here and still fires first crack of the key. if it stops working properly I might have to get one of those
-
might as well update this build after 4 yrs.. wont go into detail whats done, not really much has changed really,, but i do drive the hell out of it alot
-
Looks Fast!!! I've always liked Falcons and have had 3 of them, '61,Futura, and a '60 & '61 Ranchero's.
Has it been weighed?
-
yeah it weighs 3380 pounds with half tank of fuel and me in it (I'm 155lbs)
