Would there be a lot of interest in these? It seems like every build I do, I'm having to grind, slot, file, etc., to get the pointer aimed at the correct spot on the balancer.
I'm looking at having some billet aluminum pointers made, that would allow for up to 8° of adjustment. These would sell for about $25 each and would work with either style timing cover.
Interest?

I've got one 3D printed, so I'll try it out later today. If I'm satisfied with it, I'll order 'em up.

I'm in for one if it allows for enough swing for the ATI balancer
-
Think ATIs are 7 degrees off. Brent is thinking 8 degrees of adjustment.
Wonder if mounting hole misalignment might make that a bit tight Brent?

The ATI's are 7 degrees off. I'm not sure if I can swing it that far in one direction without making a fairly large 2-piece pointer, where the pointer is separate and swings along an arc. That wasn't my intention.
There will be a couple of "generalities" with this. I will make it sit so that it will clear most aftermarket balancers (Romacs are 6.200", Powerbonds are 6.980", ATI's are 7.070"), but there will also be differences in where the timing marks are located, down the middle of the balancer, along the outside edge, etc. I will try to aim to hit around the middle of the width of the balancer with the end of the pointer.
What I usually do on the ATI's, when I use them, is to use timing tape.
My goal is just to make a simple billet pointer, with some significant slots for the holes so that it can be moved enough to allow for common discrepancies, maybe 4° in each direction.

ill buy one

I would like one

Ok, I have these finalized and the order placed. I should have them by the first week of October, I ordered quite a few.
I'll post when they come in.
On the engine I have sitting on the stand, the pointer allows me to adjust in a span of 10°.
Final price with stainless screws and washers will be about $28 plus shipping. I'm gonna snag a load of USPS Priority small flat rate boxes, so you can count on about $6 for shipping.

Any photos you can share of the printed version? What's the final finish on these? Anodized or bare?
-

Any photos of the later style timing cover setup, with the one small screw, one 3/8" bolt holding the pointer?

Rory, the timing covers I have here with the 3/8" bolt still have the two smaller holes. I assumed that the position was still the same between the two covers. If they're not the same, then I will have to try the pointer out on another cover.

Brent, Did you get the pointers in and would it fit my situation discussed in the Tech Forum using with my ATI balancer?
Thanks,

Thanks,
They've been in for a while. Just have a few left. If you wanna try one, if it doesn't work, I'll give you your money back. It has 8-10° range, maybe a little more if you cut the end of the slot out on the passenger side of the bracket.

Just got another shipment of these in.......they are ready to ship out.
