Title: Dove heads compared to TFS
Post by: gregaba on March 28, 2021, 01:27:12 PM
I went on line today to order a set of TFS heads which I buildt my motor for.
The earlyest they can ship them to me is May 25th.
My machinest has a set of compleatly rebuildt tested Dove raised port heads he used in his Thunderbolt.
I can have them tomorrow but have a few questions about them.
Will the raised ports require me to build headers for my 428 in a 63 Galaxie or can I just order a set for the regular heads?
Are the head cc on the Dove be a lot bigger then on the TFS? Concerned about my compression ratio currently guessed at 11.4-1?
Any valve problems with the Dove large valves?
Will I have any problems running the FE Power intake adaptor?
I ws planning on useing Harland Sharp rockers-any concerns?
I tried to look this up but could not find what I needed to know.
Thanks
Greg

Dove would mix & match patterns on the cylinder heads sometimes, and there may have been running changes too. I would guess there’s no way to definitively answer those questions without at least seeing pictures of the heads, and probably measuring things like the combustion chamber CC’s.

Plus 1---

Dove had the ability to mix-'n'-match to such an extent that almost anything is possible.

I was kind of afarid of that.
The heads are a 6 1/2 to 7 hour drive from me. I would give some pictures but Charles doesn't use the internet and does everything by phone or in person.
His wife does use a computer so when I call him tomorrow I will see if he can send me some and ask about the head CCs.
I know they have been fully ported and polished and have large valves. I almost bought them the last time I was down there but I am such a bad welder I wasn't sure I could weld up a set of headers.
The most concern I have is if the headers will bolt to the heads and fit the Galaxie.
I can make up for a lower CP with thinner gaskets or shaving the heads some but would like to get the engine running without any more machine work.
I know I will have to have the intake adaptor machined because we decked the block to 10.150, but I can ship that to him with the measurements.
Those trips are getting longer every time I make one.

When I ordered my TFS heads back in December they said it was a 2 month wait till mid February.
I got them within a week.

When I ordered my TFS Tunnelwedge from Summit, it said it wouldn't be available for about 2 months. I got it in about 10 or so days. Not saying that's how it would work for you, just saying what happened to me. I think they are just selling as fast as they get them, so they can't advertise that they have them ready to ship.

Edelbrock casts all of the TFS stuff.  Edelbrock is in the process of moving across the US.

We will be lucky if we get anything from them by summer.

Yes, and the machine shop, too. At least that's what I heard over on ST.

Same here on my Tunnelwedge. Out of stock supposedly everywhere,  ordered from Summit to be shipped when available again,  about a week later was on my front porch.

Wow, have a kind of respect for someone like that. In this day and age that’s pretty cool. Reminds me of that old machine shop in Texas video that we saw,,,,,,,,, on the internet. LOL.

If those are Dove raised port then they are most likely High Riser heads and also have raised intake floor . As far as I know tunnel port would be the only other Dove head that got a raised port  and it was exhaust only

Interesting
He told me they had the raised exhause ports. Did not say anything about the intake floor.
I guess I will call him and find out.
Thanks

Dove made them both ways, I have both styles in my stash.
