Title: Blazzing Sadles
Post by: Stangman on March 24, 2021, 01:04:41 PM
40th anniversary of this funny movie. Could you imagine the uproar if this movie came out today with all these thin skinned people we have running things now.

Yes, Blazing Saddles is one of, if not the best, comedy movie. There are many great names associated with the film, my favorite being Richard Pryor, who was one of the brilliant writers. Pryor was to be the sheriff, but Clevon Little got the role {I forget the reason why}. A great sense of humor is a product of genius, and there are many, many genuises involved in this film, not the least of which is Mel Brooks (Young Frankenstein, History of the World PT 1, etc).

When people take themselves too seriously, you get the current climate we have in this country. A good healthy laugh is a cure all, and laughing at ourselves helps keep egos in check.

Nice post Stangman--we all need to be reminded to stop and join the laughter. Humor shines a light into the darkness.

Mel Brooks initially wrote the movie, but from what I hear wasn't that funny. Richard Pryor rewrote a bunch of it, and made it funny. Mel Brooks got the credit...

The part that makes me chuckle, is that everyone's last name in Rock Ridge, is Johnson. When my ancestors arrived from Sweden, their last name was Johnson. Realizing there were too many people here named Johnson, my ancestor changed his name from Daniel Johnson, to Daniel Danielson.

I laugh my ass off when Clevon Little says to Slim Pickens, "To tell a family secret, my Grandmother was Dutch".

$16k, to be exact. And all of 3 months old. The only thing salvageable were 2 rims, and they were heat treated..lol

Oh yes I do. Repeatedly telling a female employee that she must clean out any and all dried leaves and/or mulch after severely and continually overloading the bed, which would then fall down onto a hot exhaust of a diesel engine. She knew better than I did, or at least she thought.

The aftermath...

Sorry for the hijack. Blazing Saddles just immediately brought this to mind  ;D

You just can't make this stuff up. In the Blazing Saddles tradition, this is currently what's happening at work. It was in a full on blaze when I came in to work this morning, but just now able to get a picture of it. It resides on our campus, although from a fairly safe distance from student housing.

With 60mph wind gusts last night, the brake and blade pitch failed. Right now all you can hear is grinding, screeching and sparks being thrown.
Joe, sorry again for the hijack, but, you know.....Blazing Saddles!  ;D

Seen a few videos of those new fangled wind mills locking up and tossing blades!
Rough week on campus around there!

Went to see it at the drive-in, with my quite hot red-headed GF. She didn't care for the movie, and quickly got bored with it. Wanted to distract me, so we could go home. She succeeded, spectacularly  8)

I have to work at it at least just a little, to se the match-up between a 'spectacularly hot, read-headed GF' and blazing saddles, but the end result creates a number of entrancing mental pictures. Throw in 'drive-in' and things speed up significantly.

Then I remember that this should remain a 'G' rated site...

Well, I'll just let it go for now. ;D

The "Little Rascals" were originally "Our Gang". :)

I'm not so sure about that, given that many people are always drawn to "the forbidden", not to mention they'd see it play in my house. Never discount the rebellious streak that runs in the blood.

This holds a lot of water.
The Cancel Culture we must endure at this time is possibly informing a whole new generation about things that may have gone unnoticed otherwise.

No better way to give something attention than to declare, "Never look at this again." while ranting about why one should not look.
