Title: Any One Ever Used Window Screen Around Oil Pump Pick Up?
Post by: dozz302 on March 22, 2021, 09:06:24 PM
Just wondering if any body has ever used window screen wrapped around the oil pump pick up for extra protection? Maybe a couple of loosely wrapped layers with plenty of room so it will not impede oil flow and attach firmly to pick up tube with tye wire.

JMO but I wouldn't feel it could be secured good enough to stay put. I think the oil path is pickup, pump then filter. So it seems a lot of risk to protect the pump only.

Big bubble secured with a heater hose clamp ....

Could keep small chunks from lockin pump up ....

Also depends on where the small chunks were from as to if it helps
.................................................................

Cant remember how many folks complained about there vehicles lo oil light coming on at hi way speeds

Was plastic cam gear material bein sucked into screen ... would drop after slowin down or shuttin engine down

That's just added restriction for cold oil, plus it's going to have a lot of movement and will eventually break. If you look at a factory pickup, there is a metal strap that goes thru the center of the screen. Under that strap is a hole so when the oil is cold and the outside temps are cold, the screen gets sucked off the strap and that way the pump gets full flow. No way would I do it.

+1, for lots of reasons.
What would be the reasoning? If you have chunks of stuff large enough to lock a pump up, you have much bigger problems.
