Title: pressure plate bolts

im installing a new clutch in my 428.i bought a ford racing flywheel,new clutch,pp,bearing.i dont have any hardware to install the pressure plate to the flywheel.what size and how many bolts do i need?

never mind i found them 5/16-18-1/2

The clutch manufacturers offer bolts specifically for pressure plates and I think ARP does too,they normally take 6.Make sure the bolts you get have a shank where it passes thru the PP and is not threaded there,in addition to clamping it down they also act as locating dowels.

Like John said, make sure you use bolts designed for pressure plate attachment. ARP & Mr.Gasket both offer good, high strength pressure plate both, with the correct shank size needed. DO NOT use  regular hardware store bolts. You can get away with such bolts on a diagpram pressure plate that uses dowel pins, but on a Long style clutch, the PP bolts not only hold the pressure plate to the flywheel, and transfer the load thru the shanks of the bolts, those shanks also locate the pressure plate concentric to the flywheel.

thanks for not letting me mess up and buy hardware store bolts.i will order some arp or equal quality.thanks.

Something to pay attention to is when using the proper bolts with a shank if the flywheel has been surfaced. It’s possible for the shank to bottom out before it pulls the pressure plate tight to the flywheel.
