Title: 66 67 fairlane cable accelerator conversion
Post by: Jb427 on February 09, 2021, 03:31:40 AM
I am looking for info on what people in the USA do to convert a 66/67 fairlane to cable accelerator. Dose anyone make a kit for that or what parts have people used to swap over to cable?.

Lokar makes a cable and they are a easy conversion.
You can order from Summit or Jegs.

I used the Lokar pedal and black cable on my Fairlane. Pretty easy. I did put a 3/4" block between the firewall and the pedal mount as the pedal was cutting my carpet.

Something I keep considering.  I have adapted the stock lever/bellcrank deal to everything from the old 289 4V to a 351C with a tunnel ram.  The engineering exercise involved for every intake/carb combo is kinda fun though.  There's a drawer with a few weirdly shaped 1/4" rods in it LOL.

I looked at that too on our Australian falcons we used a xd falcon peddle but they are all for right hand drive cars so it is harder to adapt cause that peddle comes over to the centre of the fire wall for the cable to exit. I don't like the lokar pedal set up they are more for a hotrod i was looking more at using a pedal from like a 69 mustang or some thing like that.

It was for a ‘66 Mustang, not a Fairlane, but many years ago I helped my friend change his car to a cable throttle. He had installed a Edelbrock Torker 289 intake with the twisted carb pad. If I remember we sourced the throttle cable, mount & pedal from a ‘65-‘67 Galaxie. Too long ago to remember all the details, but it worked just fine. Not sure if you have access to anything similar, back then that stuff was easily found in any salvage yard. I would think anything similar that bolts the pivot to the firewall would work.

I can buy that stuff here but it is all repo stuff and they are not cheap so I want to try and only have to buy it once. What was the first years mustangs fairlane's other ford started to get cable pedal set up we only started to get that in our ford's around 1976 xb falcons for USA guys our xb falcon looks like a torino shape.

I would hunt the wrecking yards for something off a 70's car. I have a Lokar cable on my 62 Ranchero, what a fidgety thing to put it in with miscroscopic little clips and allen screws tightening the cable into the ends. The factory cables are so simple.

Look at a 82-85 fox mustang setup new cables are cheap at NPD just two small holes in the firewall.

I know my 69 Mustang used a throttle cable, and 67 Mustangs still used a rod, not sure what 68s used. Lots of carburated Fords had cable throttles, only thing is finding a 35 year old cars in wrecking yards may be a bit tough these days.

Same - the 70 here used a cable.  More PITA lol because I always had to rig a cable holding bracket for various combinations of intakes.

Cheers every one for the info i got my self an xd falcon bracket but it was just too much work changing it from RHD to LHD i ended up just heating and bending the stock set up works a treat now.
