When you start kids in music at an early age it's amazing how fast they pick it up and how good they can become.
We see kids every year at the Vandalia Festival in WV like this.  Where I live we have an amazing amount of talented pickers.
Start your kids early in music and this is something they can do their whole life unlike sports.

I have zero talent or affinity for music so I appreciate folks who do.  Makes me happy that there is a distinct movement towards traditional country and bluegrass, this pop country drivel that’s been popular for a couple decades now makes me nauseous.  People can self publish now and I’m constantly stumbling on good musicians

I played alto sax in the band and then picked guitar and mandolin with my dad.  I still play from time to time, but I know that the natural talent just isn't there for me.  I appreciate those who can really get down, like these kids, and have fun doing it.  That older kid in that video picking the mandolin was about to saw that thing in half.

Love seeing kids take up the traditional style of bluegrass. I grew up on the stuff and was taken to jamborees since I was a kid. Sadly, the Appalachians are about the only place it still exists in live form.

I used to play bass in a band with friends in school, then took up mandolin and played with my cousins playing fiddle, guitar and harmonica, in church. Then I took up guitar at about the age of 35, been playing/struggling with it the last 20 years. No natural talent here, I suck from years of hard practice.  :)

Jamborees are unlike any other live music event. AFTER the concert is usually when the real fun starts. Guys just getting around camps, bringing in their instruments....and playing. You might have 10-15 groups of 5-10 people who have never met before, just jamming and having a good time.

We're blessed to have a lot of musicians here in WV keeping the traditional music alive.  Lot of festivals with folks from
all walks of life playing mountain music.  There are always jams going on and if you want you can join right in and play along.
Not a nicer bunch of people anywhere.
I really enjoy seeing all the young kids playing and they'll surprise you how good they are.
Get your kids and grandkids into this music.  It's awesome.

The female side of my family were more blessed then the males.  Mom sang at a young age, traveling after HS, etc.  She played acoustic guitar.  My sister played piano at a young age, then through HS she played anything in the band that needed a player(flute, piccolo, trombone, trumpet), along with acoustic guitar.  Her and mom always played at church functions while we grew up.  Mom sung in the choir for more decades then I recall.

Dad, it was trains or nothing.   ;)

Me?  Well they tried to get me into piano at a young age and I grew to hate it quickly after a couple years.  I started alto sax in 5th-6th grades but found my spot in drums in JH and SH band.  I still have my saxophone, but I lost my lips to play it 45 yrs ago!  Brent knows what I mean LOL!  I'd love to play electric guitar, but don't have the fingers for it.  Still love my trains though!

The young ones sure are fast ! I’ve been in a rock band for about 8 years now ( we actually just released a CD of our own original songs ) and I’m the oldest in the Band and I’m not as fast as the young whipper snappers guitar players are so  I have to make my fewer notes really count/sing on my leads ,  lol , music is my getaway from working on cars

Very good. I think if i have to guess which ones will be big stars in ten years i'd say the first boy on the left and the girl with the black skirt.

Mom and dad should of had one more, for the stand-up bass. Excellent.
