Title: Shelby v Pond aluminum block
Post by: fekbmax on January 27, 2021, 10:11:35 AM
Just how much better is the Shelby block compared to the pond ? Is it really worth the extra 2 grand ?

The aluminum Pond block has been recently improved to strengthen the main web area.  It still uses the basic sideoiler oiling system, is not available with a big bore option like the Shelby block, and the head studs don't extend as far down into the block as the Shelby block's do.  I like the Shelby block better due to the oiling system, head studs, and the availability of a big bore option, but I don't know if it's worth the extra $2K.  The Pond block ought to be good for at least 1000 HP in it's current configuration.  If I was buying a new one, at this point I think I'd go with the Pond...

Thanks Jay, I appreciate your input knowing you have a lot of experience with aluminum blocks. I think I'm gonna go the pond route.  It comes with both main and head studs and cam bearings plus those guys are just way nicer and easier to deal with. The 2 grand I save will go along ways in helping with the build. Once you get everything worked out with the heads and all I will be looking forward to getting the piston info.   :)
