Does anyone have direct experience with the 66 (65 and 67 the same setup?) Galaxie toploader clutch linkage/bellcrank? Specifically, is the assist spring that is mounted on the bellcrank necessary, and if not, what impact does it's removal have on pedal effort?
I have a McLeod 75148 long style clutch installed. I ask because I have a potential clearance issue with a proportioning valve installed for disc brake conversion, and don't want to relocate and break open the brake system if its not necessary.
Thanks....

Several years ago over on fordfe.com a member posted very detailed pics of precisely this subject. I believe all previous posts were archived and can be searched. Good luck.

Its not just an assist, its actually an overcenter device that causes the pedal to return to the top if the linkage is adjusted correctly and assures there is freeplay between the release bearing and PP release fingers.

Thank you for the info. I guess I've got to relocate the prop valve.
