What's everyone using? I am doing a snarly little roller 390 with C3 heads, etc for a 63.5 4 speed Galaxie and he is debating header brands.
He says Crites requires Crites mounts to be welded in, Hookers are a bit more expensive, FPA? Any forum favorites for a 4 speed Gal?
Anyone have anything used that is nice enough to be coated as an alternative?
I think cast headers may be out of the budget for a nice set and don't want the owner to have to arm wrestle anything
Thanks!

Ross,
My dad just installed a set of what I thought were coated Crites, and they fit just fine with factory mounts on his 64. I have a used set of FPA's and a cheaper set that he tried and were in need of massaging to clear the clutch linkage. The FPA's I removed from a 4 speed 64 myself, so evidently had a different zbar.

I sent you a PM, Ross.

Edit; or maybe I didn't...don't see it in my Sent folder.
I'll try again.

"He says Crites requires Crites mounts to be welded in,"- This statement is not true. I used regular mounts with the sets I've used. Slight carving on lower control arm for no.6 pipe. If the owner is squeamish about ground clearance, look elsewhere. Test fit BEFORE ceramic coat.

Mad Dog headers bolted straight in with factory mounts in my ‘63. Very similar, if not the same as Crites headers. And as Val mentioned, slight clear ancient needed on No. 6 at the lower control arm.

These are what i used in my 63.5 galaxie

I run FPA in the Merc. They required a little trim on passenger side upper A arm mount, but otherwise go in no sweat with stock 4spd linkage and are an easy install. Starter replacement goes much easier if you drop the idler arm, that's about the only trick I can think when running them.
