Title: Brown-Lipe 5531-A VS 5831 Tail Shaft Speedometer Gear
Post by: chris401 on December 14, 2020, 04:44:03 PM
For Larry, Nick or anyone else that has dealt with these units. The 5831 Pencil Gear map Larry sent me measures .309" at the tip. My 5531 housing measures .369". Did you notice if your tail housing has a bushing pressed in? I've located a drive gear (pn: 55-452-6) and sent the rest of the information to Stewart Warner to match up the pencil gear. The drive gear is said to be for a 5831 but matches my 5531 tail shaft and blank dimensions. On with the hunt....

EDIT: Added picture.

Unfortunately I can't tell if there is a bushing in the bottom for the pencil gear.  I doesn't seem like it, but hard to get my head in there to look.

Remember my box is a 6041, not a 5831.

Ok, you have the 4 speed. In any case I appreciate the information you sent. A tech from Tremec thought they were all the same. However he has been working from home since March, all the old stuff is on books at work.
