Post by: dozz302 on December 10, 2020, 01:40:52 PM
Hello I have a few sets of axles that have long racing studs. Looking to swap them out for ford passenger car stock studs. Anyone have a barrel full?? Thanks eparocz@aol.com

I didn't get an e-mail. Just message me here.
Would studs from a 1957 9" work or a 1958 Edsel? haven't looked at the 57 one yet it's still together.
Are you just looking for studs with a F? possibly later axles may have them. I'll look at a few axle shafts this PM.

Yes I think only later 60's or early 70's would have the "F" stamped on the head. Thanks for looking.

Looked at a few axle shafts and found some PU 31 spline axle studs that have the F. They are exactly the same as the 28 spline studs.
I'll get a few sets out. The 28 spline axle studs have quite a bit of rust from under the wheel that looks like it could affect strength.
Should be able to get sets into a small flatrate box.

Does the F indicate anything like it being a stronger alloy or something?

Hard to get a clear picture but this shows the F
The 2 on the left are from a 28 spline axle and the right one is from the 31 spline.
The 31 spline version  has the F much more pronounced and a bit larger. The heads are all the same either 28 or 31 spline.
I'll get a set off the shafts today.
Richard

PS: I'd never thought about bolt head/axle stud markings being specific for a Concourse restoration, but then I found that there was a need for a specific nosecone for an original Cobra  starter and I happened to have one but had to check at least 15 starters.  Can't remember who needed it.  Or the 1967 427 Fairlane thermostat neck that I got off a F427 I'd bought. Go figure!

Here is what the axle has. I'll get a better picture. The stud towards left I think was replaced. Don't rip yours apart yet. These 2 pictures look different from each other. Notice the chamfered edge?
What year and type vehical are your 28 spline studs out of?
