I used the 1247-S3 with the steel shim. A slight amount protrudes into the VC rail area. What are we cutting this off with?
-
I trim gaskets on mock-up with a razor blade or with tin snips.
-
Some will cringe, but I hit it with a chisel. Makes a nice sharp close cut.

I am stuck with something like a chisel at this juncture. I used the Mr Gasket and they got soggy. It's why I went to the 1247 -S3 this time. Always a learning curve as there are constant changes to products.
-
I did mine with a gasket scraper (razor blade)
-
A razor won't cut gaskets that have a steel clad. Mr Gasket and others that are just fibrous materials are easy to cut with a razor.
-
When all else fails, peel off the soft material, and bend the steel tab towards the lowest side of the gasket, and dab a bit of sealer on the area. The valve cover gasket should still seal the juncture. Joe-JDC

Thanks. I didn't think they'd be that difficult to cut. Lesson learned. I have a .50 rail mis-match too. Doesn't help with sealing, even with the thick composition Edelbrock VC gaskets.

X2 on a chisel if you forget to trim it before, watch where the little piece goes ;D

I used S3’s. I also did not care for the MRG’s.
Now that you mention it I do have a scraper that takes a carpet knife blade, but I’m almost positive cut them with a gasket scraper, the metal isn’t that thick in them.
A chisel would certainly work too.

I think this horse is plenty beaten, but also fret cutters are great for trimming things flush.

Well I have just beat them over with a hammer before. also cringe worthy. :)
