Title: HIPO electric wipers
Post by: allrightmike on November 08, 2020, 07:34:24 AM
Anyone know if electric windshield wipers were an available option on 1960 full size Fords? I know they were the only choice on the 360 HP 352 due to low vacuum at idle.

Nope, never saw any. Mine had vacuum assisted by the fuel pump. If you wanted washers, they ran off  a pump with a small wheel that ran against the power steering belt via a vacuum diaphram. I think 62 was the first year for electric. if you wanted washers you got 2 speed wipers. without washers you got a single speed. Ditto for 63.

I don`t know much about 60 Fords, but 1959 was the first year electric wipers were available as optional equipment. It seems that pretty much every Skyliner retractable hardtop has electric wipers , and most cheaper models were vacuum, but one 59 that I removed the electric wiper motor from, an otherwise zero option base model 4 door, 6 cylinder, 3 speed on the column,no radio or clock, manual steering & brakes, didn`t even have a passenger side sun visor. So if electric wipers were optional on any 59 Ford , one would think they would have been in 1960 as well.

Same on '64 cars. I bought an aftermarket kit, complete with a bag and a little electric pump.
