Title: Value 1966 428 from T-Bird
Post by: c9zx on August 29, 2020, 05:41:30 PM
It is supposedly "rebuilt" with unknown internals or over bore. It comes with unknown condition C6. All input appreciated. Thanks, Chuck

I’ve seen some $1500 standard rebuilt 390s lately, so I think $2500 or so for a 428 considering value of the block and crank.  I’d want to hear it run or see receipts before dropping that kind of cash, as you can buy a core 428 for under a grand with good shopping

Thanks Chilly. The thing is all I really want is a good block, IF it sonic tests good. I suppose the crank and rods might go to someone wanting to build a 410. I've never bought a pig in a poke and don't know if I want to start now. Thanks, Chuck

I’d say $600-800 is what an early 428 block goes for.  I saw 428 cranks as low as $150 at Carlisle, I have two so didn’t inquire as to condition but they looked like rusty but usable cores.  If you’re starting scratch on a build and are building something “nice” where machine work would have to be checked and likely touched up, seems cheaper to start with a core
