Title: Paint
Post by: 475fetoploader on July 13, 2020, 09:59:04 PM
Thinking of going with a plain, original white, with painted steel wheels. I just really appreciate a stock
Fairlane more than a flashy one lately. Should I just leave it alone?

it's your car, do what pleases you and to hell with everyone else. ;D

I like the white, but I prefer black painted wheels with the caps. It's a clean and classic look, but that is just my opinion.

Thanks! The black wheels might be the way to go.

I like the color combination as is, you don't see that very often and it makes the car stand out.  I'd give some consideration to replacing the hood though, same color but use a 427 Fairlane scoop.  That's a great look on those cars, IMO.

Yeah, it’s a stock hood with a cowl grafted on, Ive been shopping new glass hoods. Thanks for the feedback!

the stop sign seams a little high , but it could be for the monorail operator . like the car , white with stock looking wheels would do it for me .

Nice car. Interesting paint scheme. I like it.
Good points being made. But just as a point of order and not to be critical at all, but, cowl hoods are kinda chevy.

Always prefer the plain paint schemes, and the white/white color combo on Fords has that lightweight car look, always works well if you have some tire on the rear.

'66/67 Fairlanes, '64 Galaxies, and '66-69 Falcons in particular seem to look best with this scheme IMO.

I like all white, white wheels...or leave the current wheels, still clean.

What I would really dig is continue the blue to the bottom and run the Prostars, nice clean dark blue monster

With that color scheme, my first impression was '67 Chevy II.  Had to look a bit closer.  LOL.  Solid colors are definitely more Ford looking after the '50s color schemes were abandoned.  Joe-JDC

I vote solid white body,  with steel wheels (white or black).

Or burgundy...…….

Mt '64 Custom was Wimbledon White---with 'dog-dish' hub caps. I believe the wheels were black.

Maybe get it wrapped. Then you can always revert after a few years.

I’ve made my living refinishing cars in the past. I can’t bring myself to get behind a wrap. I will admit, it looks like it could simplify things though. I’m definitely enjoying feedback from folks though. I am really leaning towards steel wheels, and Wimbledon white.

The neat part is you can choose an era and paint to match.
The white body with white steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps is the classis look your car would have had when brand new...It was the race look of the time.

The two tone, body line split, you now have is a 1990's look that probably falls under "Pro Street" and the wheels fit that perfectly.
I will admit with Joe when he said your car seemed like a Chevy II at first glance.

The tall hood scoop screams look at me, I'm special. In my opinion, unless the scoop has a useful need and function, it detracts from the nice lines of a Fairlane.
The "factory" style 427 scooped hood in nice looking and would fit with the white look as well as fit with the two tone look.

Swapping to the "factory" style 427 scooped hood, and painting it to match the current blue, would result in a very different look while not taking much investment or time. This may be a great look for your car.

You could go full on ricer and paint all the bolt on panels a different color than the body/chassis. Then finish it off with details like scuffs, dents, and some portion of it hanging down broken to really sell the look.

No matter what you do I strongly suggest you do what you want, otherwise you will be constantly chasing what you think some other person wants, and that is a moving target.

I like my Falcon as a white elephant.  Easy touch up too.
