Anyone here that have put a Cleveland or better yet a 400 in a 66-67 Fairlane that can tell
me what headers they have used? There is 70 cleveland on the shelf headers for 70 Torino/fairlane/mustang
Big difference on the engine bay compared to a 66-67?
-
I don't think there are any headers to fit a 400 in one. That engine is as wide as a 460 and headers for a Cleveland, which are available, will hit everything on a 400.
70-71 Torinos have the same engine compartment but the towers are spread apart 1/2" each side. Headers for one of those cars will usually fit but be real close to the towers and steering box where they clear by 1/2" or more on a 70 and need denting anywhere that was closer.
There are swap headers meant for the 66-69's. I think Hedman makes some

I have counted on cutting down the spring towers out to the spring
maybe building headers is the only alternativ. Gettting to old and lazy
for this hobby ::). What is the differance in ex port spacing 400-429
there is 429 on the shelf headers for 70 torino

Aside, does anybody know which frame mounts the 400 takes? Small block? 460? Their own?
-
Totally different between a 351M-400 and a 351C/small block. Look kinda similar to 429/460, but no idea if they would work. BUT.... a FE bolts right in , and headers are readily available!
-
I been told that 429 frame mount from fairlane /Torino 70-?
make the swap a bolt in. Got a pair for sale Felony? but in 73 there was blocks produced that
was cast with two bellhousing bolt paterns and Knobs for the Cleveland/sb
mounts. I almost sure the engine i have is a 73 but dont know if it is like that
Have to see when stepson dig it out of the barn

I tried to give him A FE but noooo He was rambling about a LS....atleast
it was not one of those ugly Diesels they put in everything and run around
smoking like a chinese koal powerplant
Aand i told him a cleveland is a Ford LS. Seen to much U-tube videos and read to much about
1000 hp junkjard LSs that they daily drive ??? I told him he get mud in his
shorts with 400 real hp in his Fairlane. More than enough to rattle the store windows
and pick up girls in ;D

If you go to the Torino Forum there is a how-to on fitting a 429 where a 351C was using the C frame mounts, so you can see where things get sketchy. I can't believe Ford would give the 400 its own unique frame perches (actually, knowing Ford, I can believe it), so is it SBF like the 351 or 460? What I have that is not any kind of priority but it feeds the brain malfunction that constantly builds things in my mind is a cheap '79 parts Ranchero with its formerly running 351M still in it, a 400 crank that a Chevy guy gave me, and an Edelbrock Streetmaster 400 another Chevy guy sold me at a good price. Racetec recently introduced pistons for the M and the 400 that solves that low compression problem those engines have. So, just trying to fit all the pieces to this puzzle, in my quest to know everything about everything.

First, do you have a 351C 4V, or 2V engine, or 400 2V? If you have the 351C 2V, then the Cleveland headers for a 70 mustang should fit the 67 Fairlane with SB motor mounts. The 289-302-351W-351C-400 use similar motor mounts. The frame mounts are slightly different, but not impossible to make work. 429 headers are a lot different than the 351C, and not easily modified to work. A 351C will fit just about anywhere a FE will fit. A 351M/400 has a taller block deck and therefore is a lot wider than the 351C. Joe-JDC

i What we have is a 400/C6 we are going to fit in a 66 Fairlane that have a 289/C4.
Im aware that most Mustang headers fit the Fairlane. I used Hooker competition
for a 65 Mustang/289 in my Fairlane
But on some a tube on driver side hit the firewall, like the ones we installed in this one
no big deal rerouting that. Since many headers hang real low
i thought maybe a set from a 351c can fit with slight mods, even though a 400 is
higher.
I have built so many headers in my life so i dont feel like building yet another set but.....
I know 302,351c, 351W in a fairlane take the same motor
mounts, with two vertical bolts in the block i had all of them in my 66 Fairlane with same
mounts
The 400 is a different animal, if its not what some call an FMX block right or wrong
name, they have provision to drill and tap for those vertical bolts and dual BP for the
trans It is possible i have one of those but not likely

This is a Australian 71 falcon the engine bay is almost exactly the same as the 66 67 fairlane but right hand drive engine is a 351 c with yates heads exhaust ports lifted 1" everything fit but it sure was hard to remove the spark plugs with the lifted ports.
-
Interesting, what headers are those?
-
I posted for you in the 351C forum but will follow up here. The 66-67 (actually for sure 67-70) Fairlane engine compartment and the same year Falcon are identical. Sheet metal should/could actually swap.
The headers I used are swap headers from Tubular Automotive. 4V, 1 7/8" tubes. Good parts, not cheap. With a 400 - no, they won't work without mods because they are built to tuck up nicely. Going from a 351C to a 400 moves the ports up and out like 3/4~1" or so thanks to the 1.01 deck height increase. Just looking (I have a 400 block std bore in the shed for "whenever") the collectors would hit the floor pan well before mating with the heads. I'd guess adding an 1" or so to the down run of the tubes would allow them to work.

Pacemaker was the brand https://www.pacemaker.com.au/headers/ch-ford/ch-ford-8-cylinder/ch-8cyl-falcon/ch-8cyl-xr-xf/falcon-xr-xy-351c-4v-2-primary-tuned-competition-detail. They look abit ruff in the pics but that was a Historic circuit race car so they got beat up pretty good.

All my headers look like that after awhile. But thats due to the historic asphalt
on the roads here :D

The beast is out of the barn now and dissasembled! The engine mounts, block rubber ones, bolted to the block with three widely spread bolts from the LTD looks like they are going to fit right in on the Fairlane frame mounts.
