Title: 517 MEL
Post by: Royce on April 17, 2020, 09:17:44 AM
I am finally getting around to assembling my 517 street MEL.. 10:1 compression, hydraulic roller cam, JDC ported heads  Adapted 460 Performer RPM intake.

I plan on giving the FEPOWER LLC Dyno a workout in the next few months.  It should make 550-575 horse and lots of torque.. It does not currently have a home but i am eyeing up a couple late 50s Fords and pickups as possibles

So Royce, what are the head flow numbers, intake and exahust, for the ones depicted? Sorry if you've posted them before.

Bob, I will have to look them up as my shriveled brain cannot recall at this moment. JDC might have them easily accessible.

Krausened,  Now that term does not get thrown around much any more.

I did several sets of heads, so I don't know which ones you have there.  But a couple of them were 320/230ish if memory serves me.  My brain is older than yours.  LOL     Joe-JDC

Thanks Joe and Royce! Those are damned good numbers for such an old head design.

I've always been intrigued by the '59-'60 T-Birds that had factory 430 MELs.  You see them pop up from time to time in Hemmings.  The inaugural '59 Daytona 500 runner-up was an MEL T-Bird.  So a square 'bird gets my vote!   ;D

Jay has a 60 bird with a  low Po 352.. I would donate a healthy MEL to make a gentleman's hot rod!

That would be my choice, too or, a '58 Edsel, Corsair, Like I had when I was 18 (1962).

IDK Lenny,  Nobody has ever asked to buy one  lol  I guess if pressed i would say about same as a similar optioned iron head FE..

I do have a friend who is unloading a 510 Mel that i assembled for him and tested at Jay's place..He is unloading some projects he will never get to and the MEL goes too. I can get you in touch if you like.

61 Unibodys are cool. I am looking for one myself, but one that is 90% done

First post...Royce, it will be interesting to see how your engine does...do you have a Jones cam for it?  Should be close to my build.  Lenny Mason, I do still have the 510 MEL Royce mentioned, I would sell it.  High-end build, lots of custom stuff...Arias pistons, Scat H-beam rods, Isky roller cam, Harlan Sharp rockers, Michael Slover heads, Slover intake adapter plates, Offy tunnel ram, aluminum FE water pump, Offy finned valve covers.  Dyno time only.  Royce good luck on the DYNO!!
