Was looking over my options an thought I settled on an ATI aluminum but then I looked a the foot notes and there are a lot of non supplied stuff you need. I asked where the parts could be had? His responce was the same as the guy at fluid damper. Well you have to cut your space and have a custom Chevy pulley made to fit. Well a apparently it does not fit a ford it is a Chevy damper that has to be rigged to fit although stated for an FE. Is there a quality damper for an FE or iam I stuck with a pioneer? Thanks Jon

Survival has a whole page of them.
Not sure what your looking for, but Barry should be able to fix you up.

Same stuff I bought most of my engine from Barry. Was looking for a step up from the PP part maybe I'll get the Romac.

Scat also makes a damper.
SFI too.
I would imagine it fits on their crank pretty good.
I will probably go that route on my stroker.
Unless Barry chimes in and says it's junk or something. Which would be odd. lol
edit: Upon further oogling it appears to be a Professional Products Damper.
Either way a bit of fitting is pretty much required in any custom engine build.

Yeah but the whole custom pulley thing scares me sure the damper isn't too bad at 3-4 hundred bucks but a custom billet serpentine pulley would be four times that.

I have always used fluid dampers or ATI rattlers with good results now I have to rethink cost VS effectiveness the Pioneer is nothing more than a stock part with retainers. In my opinion good for 4000 or less but what do I know LOL.

My vote is for an ATI steel balancer. I'd stay clear of the aluminum ones because they don't dampen the crank vibrations as effectively as a steel one, and I'd run away from Fluidampr balancers, which have an unfortunately tendency to snap the snout off the crank in some cases...
-
Yikes don't want that so how do I make it fit?

The pulleys are a simple fix for the ATI. Just get a round file and oblong the holes in the pulley just a bit and it will fit just fine. You will have to adjust your timing pointer some because TDC on the damper will be off by several degrees. You just need to find TDC with a piston stop and get your pointer to point to TDC on the damper.
Pointer was modified to point to true TDC:

You should also measure the crank snout diameter with an outside micrometer and the bore of the damper with a bore gauge to make sure you have the proper fit. The damper comes with instructions on how much of an interference fit is needed for a given snout diameter. You might have to get the damper honed for a proper fit.

I used the Power Products SFI balancer on the tri-power 428 I built and I thought it looked like a pretty nice piece. Fit great too. What's the problem?
-
Well I was thinking when road racing I will be running between 4000 and 6000 rpm for extended periods. I would not be so concerned if it were in short bursts but I will be in that range most of the track.

Got the whole balancer ordeal figured out I am going with the ATI steel 918310 balancer. I am going to engineer my own serpentine belt drive so the whole Chevy pulley thing might work to my advantage anyhow as long as the face of the balancer ends up in the same place as stock. I feel like I am getting closer everyday tomorrow I am going to order the remainder of the bottom end stuff from the speed shop when I go to the Docs and get prodded LOL.

Does anybody have any experience POWERFORCE Harmonic Balancers? I will be running one of these. Its my first one. Thanks Clifford
