Title: Help I.D. these 2 x 4 lids.
Post by: 6667fan on February 27, 2020, 09:16:07 AM
I have thought that they were either from a medium riser application or low riser with hood clearance concerns. This is based on the recessed wing nut pockets. Also looking for thoughts on originality. The lines on one lid that at one time had a medallion on it are more crisp than the other lid.
Thanks,
JB

It looks like by the casting quality at least one of them is the Mexican made ones like I bought off eBay from a seller in southern Texas. I had an original from a Medium Riser and it didn't have the porosity like the Mexican one. I think 63 to 67 used them and the 65 and later didn't use the emblem.

I had an original one from a '66 that I sold a few tears ago. It had some casting flaws, but not to that extent. I also think the bottom side was flat where the wingnut holes are protruding and it was pretty thick. Some original ones can have a slight warp to them. The BT repops were much nicer than the originals, but hard to say what you have there.

65-67 MR style with recesses for wing nuts and no emblem holes. The castings definitely look like cheap repops though.
