Title: Wanted: FE Manual Bellhousing
Post by: allen2438 on February 11, 2020, 08:07:33 AM
I need a FE CAR bellhousing, NOT truck, for a toploader trans.  Previous owner used a truck bell and lunched the input bearing and pilot bushing.  "knapp489@gmail.com"
In the central Tx area.  Allen

What is the easiest way to tell the difference in the auto vs. truck bell housings, Allen?

C60A-8394-D    Usually a large Z on them and a "hump" on the upper back. This will also accommodate the 11.5" clutch.

Neither of the bellhousings you mentioned fit the larger clutches. The Galaxie offering also seems to have a different trans pattern.

There were multiple versions of the C5AA bellhousing, it also came in a version to fit the larger clutch. Most work with the later wide toploader transmission pattern. There was a C8OE FE bellhousing too.

the c5ta truck bellhousing comes with no hump but is can be used with an 11 1/2 inch flywheel , clutch and pressure plates. i still have a c5aa with the hump for the 11 1/2 inch flywheel. i have owned a few but have never seen one without the hump.

Hi Allen

I have  one  of the big ones  for a car/ 4 speed with the big Z on the back.  Where are you located?  Asking $400 plus the ride.

Larry, I am interested if Allen has already found what he needs. Which clutch fork pivot does your Z bell have - sping or clip?

In case you weren't aware the smaller housings will not accommodate the CF clutches. They don't clear the counterweights.
