I need a FE CAR bellhousing, NOT truck, for a toploader trans. Previous owner used a truck bell and lunched the input bearing and pilot bushing. "knapp489@gmail.com"
In the central Tx area. Allen

What is the easiest way to tell the difference in the auto vs. truck bell housings, Allen?
-
The casting number on them.

thanks Kevin.

C60A-8394-D Usually a large Z on them and a "hump" on the upper back. This will also accommodate the 11.5" clutch.

also the c5aa galaxie style and c5ta truck bellhousing. galaxie price seems to cheaper than the c60 version. i have sold a few of each. used to be that $250 was common but not now. truck bellhousing wsa 50 bucks if seller is luicky.

Neither of the bellhousings you mentioned fit the larger clutches. The Galaxie offering also seems to have a different trans pattern.

There were multiple versions of the C5AA bellhousing, it also came in a version to fit the larger clutch. Most work with the later wide toploader transmission pattern. There was a C8OE FE bellhousing too.

Got it covered guys. Much thanks. Allen

the c5ta truck bellhousing comes with no hump but is can be used with an 11 1/2 inch flywheel , clutch and pressure plates. i still have a c5aa with the hump for the 11 1/2 inch flywheel. i have owned a few but have never seen one without the hump.

Hi Allen
I have one of the big ones for a car/ 4 speed with the big Z on the back. Where are you located? Asking $400 plus the ride.

Larry, I am interested if Allen has already found what he needs. Which clutch fork pivot does your Z bell have - sping or clip?
-
I have a c3aa car bell for sale. Have fit a 12" under it.

In case you weren't aware the smaller housings will not accommodate the CF clutches. They don't clear the counterweights.
