Title: Re-Cammed Kaase/Brechler EMC MEL 476
Post by: Royce on January 10, 2020, 12:01:12 PM
Jon pulled the aggressive solid roller and we went with a grind that moved torque down the rpm range and has less harsh valve action..The crate from Winder Ga just showed up on the freight dock today,,  Now,  what to do with this beast.

Royce, does it only make power above 5100 rpm?   :)  Did they provide the dyno data for lower engine speeds?

If you look on page 2 of this forum you will find results from 2017 that are pretty much the max effort for this motor.. The actual EMC cam did hot have as much top end but a flatter curve than the max hp one

"1957 Mercury 2dr Wagon "Battle Wagon" drag car  Currently engineless,  Boss 9 transplant coming soon"...As cool as this is,the MEL would be at home here.

I hear you Steve, but it would require a transmission change to fit the Bell housing bolt pattern on the MEL..  How about a 57 Custom 300?

I think you keep it in the MEL family of cars.

I had a '58 Edsel Corsair, when I was 19 (1963) I liked it a lot but, they are heavy (Merc chassis). My second choice would be the '58/'60, T-Bird.

I have a pretty solid 57 Ranchero I'd like to move, have too many. Previous hot rod with a 390/ 4spd, has front discs and tilt column, was pulled apart for paint by PO

I believe there are three different bell housing bolt patterns for the MEL family of engines, and with the cubic inch capacity, I would assume the they started with the later 462 engine which used a modified bell housing pattern C6 transmission, a bolt pattern which surprisingly (was required for '68 (1/2?) Lincolns) is also present on the 385 series engines.

Also two different block/motor-mount patterns within the decade of production.      ;)

     Scott.

That might take more than 800 horse  lol..
I think Steve should put it in his 57 and go on Drag week. The revenge of the drunk monkey..
