Title: Given this is the Non FE tech forum
Post by: Posi67 on December 09, 2019, 11:33:03 PM
Here's a Non FE engine Dyno result I was at a week back. Engine is a 302 based SBF that's currently at 393 CI and runs on pump gas. The owner is 82 years old and drives the car to and from the track as well as around town. Heater, wipers and radio all work.  It's also a Stick car just for fun. Best pull of the day was 769 @ 7100 RPM while the torque came in at 607 @ 5700. Best ET I've see was a 9.38 but he usually runs a bit slower due to the "street" transmission. Obviously, there were a lot of good parts in this build.

Is it a 302 or a 351 based engine? If it's 302, can you tell us how he got it out to 393?

Also, can you give any specs to the engine? Like heads, cam, carb and anything else you'd like to throw in.

5.4 Honda rod (literally)
Dart 8.2 deck
CFE Pro King heads 2.180/1.6
Blue Thunder 2 Piece manifold.
270/276@.050
.760 /.720 net
SV1 1160 cfm carb.
Dailey external pump( wet sump)
Vacuum pump 12 inches negative at song...
Pump 94 fuel only.
Test done with air cleaner on and alternator turning

Watched a couple vids on this gent a while back.
My hero.
Seems like a wonderful guy and still slammin’ Gears at 82.
Can only hope I’m anywhere near as cool as he is at that age.

Big bore Boss 302 based block, Pro king heads...big money engine for sure but the numbers prove it's worth it!

Damned impressive numbers. And the cam numbers don't seem all that radical; I suppose to make it streetable. I've seen the video before and he sure stretches that top end to the limit!

That guy was one of my inspirations for using a Jerico and adjustable clutch on the street. I think he uses a G-Force? I'm curious why you call it a "street" transmission? Is it the synchronized version?

I know he ran a TKO 600 and believe the car now has a T-56, hence the Street transmission comment. Bill only uses 4 gears at the track and finding 3rd on a power shift seems problematic. Rear gear is in the 5.14 range so the O/D comes in handy on the street. Bill said he gets almost 20 MPG while cruising.

1.54 foot pounds of torque per cubic inch is pretty hard to believe.  Don't mean to rain on the parade, but I would be very suspicious of those dyno numbers...

Ahh, that really is a street tranny. I'm surprised he can get it to live at that power level. The handful of guys that I've seen using that trans at that level have had problems getting them to survive, and 3rd gear always seems to be an issue on power shifting.

That's a beautiful car, which is no easy feat by itself, seeing as how there are very few parts available for them.

You got some nice cars that go to that track Posi 67, I seem to recall the blue fairlane with a radical smallblock. And he was racing another white FE fairlane. Besides the fact that this is your track also right

I don't think the dyno numbers are off. That was put together by some very experienced people. Lots of tricks in there, the pistons stick way out of the bore to the point the rings are right up near the top of the bore and the thick head gaskets act as a spacer. I have followed him on the highway as he went the 60 miles back to the ferry and it really is amazingly streetable.

I can only report what I saw but the Dyno owner isn't in business and much like you, he has a Dyno mostly for his own projects so I have no reason to doubt the numbers at this point. The HP is up a bit since the original build 1/2 dozen years ago however the Cam and pistons are different now and this is a different Dyno.

I can't get the videos to load at work, but the pics look like the guy who lives somewhere around the Mission BC track? If that is the same car I think it is I've seen him around Vacouver a couple times, and it was an older guy I met driving it. When I saw that car it had a 351w based engine that I think was stroked to 418. Could be a completely different car.

Regardless of cars specs, it was a nice car and the fact the guy is still driving a cool car and racing at 80+ is impressive. You never know when your ticket will get punched, enjoy it all while you can and this guy is definitely doing that!

Different car, Bill lives on the Island. I have seen a couple 65 Comets out by Mission, one is flat black with a 4.6 DOHC Mod Motor.
