Title: Scat crankshaft keyways
Post by: fairlaniac on November 23, 2019, 03:52:40 PM
Looks like Scat has different keys than OEM. Who sells the keys and do both or just one line up with the crank sprocket?

Thanks!

It's a SBC woodruff key.   One will catch the timing gear and the other will catch the balancer spacer.

I picked up two at the local hardware store. 3/16"x 3/4" if I remember right.

Will these work? This way I don't need the term SBC to enter my garage :)

I use the BB Chevy key.  Probably the same as the SBC.

I prefer the alloy keys, they are significantly stronger.

Pioneer PK9.  Only need the timing gear one.
It will grab a little of the damper spacer and the damper bolt torque is more than enough to keep that spacer from turning against the seal drag by a factor of about a billion...

No doubt you are right, but I can't stop myself from using both :)
